Step-Dad-ish

Rachel POV
After we sat in the car, we drove home. We decided to have everybody come over, just cause we could. So I passed by the school, said I had a "family emergency" and left. Now here we are in the kitchen cooking up dinner for everyone.

Beth is in her blue faded jeans and a pink shirt with an apron identical to Finns, it says, kiss the cook, she was also wearing a chefs hat. I just laughed. We had the music on, and we were dancing around while cooking together. It was like the perfect family moment. Finn twirled Beth as the doorbell rang.

I set the spoon down and took off my apron and hat, that Finn got from Beth's play set kitchen. There was two, one for Beth, and the other one, the one that Finn "let me have" or so he said. I rolled my eyes.

"Coming" I said going to the door

I open it excited too see who it is, and I see Steve. Not that I don't want him here, it's just, I was kind of hoping for someone else. Is that so bad? Plus he seems to pop up unannounced a lot lately.

"Hey Steve" I greeted

I heard two groans from the kitchen.

"Hi Rachel, I just came by to see if you wanted to go to dinner?" He asked
"You couldn't have called?" I blurt out

I see his look of offense, so I quickly add,

"I mean, I can't" I answer trying to cover up my rudeness
"Why not?" He asked irritated
"Well because we're going to have family dinner" I answer happy
"Oh, well why didn't you say so" he says happy too

I just nod my head because he understands, and I'm about to close the door when he walks right in. I panic a little, I know how much nobody likes him, especially Beth.

"I would love to be apart of family dinner, I feel honored that Beth considers me like her second dad" he says walking in

I raise my eyebrows, because, excuse me? Beth thinks he is the complete opposite of a father. She hates him! Plus he can't just crash our family dinner! I feel so mad, and I don't know why!

"With all do respect Steve, I didn't say that Beth considers you like that, because she doesn't" I answer mad

Finn and beth walk in wearing the hats and the aprons. Steve looks confused and then he sees Finn carrying Beth and his face hardens.

"Oh, I see, you and him are together now," he says mad

I look at Finn confused who looks confused as well, and I look back at Steve,

"No, Finn is just Beth's dad, we're not together anymore" I answer
"Well, I thought I was sort of like Beth's step dad-ish" he answers sounding stuck up

I scoff, we never said he was Beth's step dad, or any dad for that matter. Steve was just my boyfriend of three months, not Beth's 'step dad-ish' who does he think he is? Dictating my family!

"Well you're not" Finn answers for me mad as well

Steve shoots him a death glare, and I get mad.

"Rachel aren't you going to correct him?" Steve says annoyed
"No, because he's right, you're not any type of dad toward Beth" I answer mad
"I can't believe you're choosing his side!" Steve says yelling

I flinch, because he's never yelled like that. I check on Beth whose gripping Finn tighter.
Finn looks pissed, and he sets down Beth and whispers something in her ear. She nods and runs to her room. Then he walks over to me as Steve continues,

"I CAN'T believe you're cheating on me with Finn! I should've known! I knew you couldn't keep your legs shut for him! God you're so stupid Rachel!"

I swear it feels like my heart is being squeezed so hard it just dissolve. Finn gets real close to Steve, and he crouches down,

"DO NOT, EVER, yell at Rachel like that in our house. YOU are an asshole who doesn't even deserve her, how can you say those thing about her when they're not even close to true? I want you OUT of my house before I do something, you'll regret" Finn yells stern

Him defending my honor, reminds of one of the reasons why I fell in love with him. He never let anyone talk bad to me. Steve looked about ready to pee his pants, so he walked out the door. As soon as he left, I turned to Finn,

"Thank you" I say sincere
"No one should ever talk to you like that, I did what anyone would've done" he shrugged

I slightly push him,

"Let me thank you, you goofball" I smile at his modesty
"Alright, alright" he smiled "you're welcome" he said

I smiled as Beth slowly came out.

"Is he gone? Are you guys ok?" Beth said timid

She's just like her dad, always making sure everyone's ok. She's such a sweet girl. Except of course when she beat up that girl.

I bend down and open my arms she runs to me and hugs me. I hug her back tight.

"I'm sorry mommy, it's all my fault, maybe if I had just he could be my daddy, he wouldn't have said those mean things!" Beth says

"Oh baby, it's not your fault," I pull away to look at her face, I smooth out her hair, "don't ever think it's your fault, because it's not" I tell her

I wipe her tear as she nods. I give her a smile.

"Plus your daddy, almost beat Steve up for me!" I said

She widened her eyes,

"Really!??" She said

She ran too Finn who was leaning on the wall smirking with his hands crossed. She looked up at him since he's so tall and she so short.

"Did you really daddy?? Did you really almost beat up Steve!??" She asked

Finn got out of his position and picked up Beth,

"Yup almost did" he answered
"Cool!" She said excited

I smiled as I saw Finn holding Beth who was hugging him tight. He's the best dad to her, I honestly couldn't have asked for a better guy to be her father.

"Hey dad?" Beth pulled away
"What is it munchkin?" He asked

She wrinkled her nose real cute,

"When are you going to shave your almost beard, it's itchy!" She asks

Finn just laughs, and looks at me. Then I start laughing, although, he does look rather sexy with that growing beard of his.

"Soon, I promise" he says kissing her cheek

I smile and walk over to them, I join in their little hug,

"Our little family" I whisper
"Our little family" Finn whispers back

I look up at him, and look into his honey colored eyes, in that moment I realize, I never stopped loving him.

"I'm hungry" Beth whispers in between Finn and I, catching our attention

Finn and I just laugh, of course she's hungry, she's always hungry! No doubt in my mind that she's Finn Hudsons hungry kid.
