Prologue

"Wait for me, goddammit!" Camila shouted at her girlfriend who started walking away and leaving her where she stands. She let out a sigh before she followed Lauren who ignored her command.

"You're gonna have to walk faster than that, babe" Lauren complained jokingly, she turned her face to Camila who was going towards her. The exhausted look on the younger one's face made her giggle. Camila's brown eyes rolled "I am," she answered.

As soon as she had managed to reach Lauren, she immediately grabbed her arms toh old onto them "It's not my fault I have tiny legs" she added as they continued walking out of the park.

After hanging out on their usual Friday spot, Lauren dropped Camila off at her apartment and went home after.

It was quarter to ten in the evening when Lauren arrived home. She went inside her house trying not to catch her mom's attention so she could avoid a conversation with her. Clara's alright, but she could be very uptight sometimes and she puts a lot of pressure on her daughter, she wants her to be perfect and successful just like herself. It sickens Lauren sometimes and she just couldn't deal with it right now.

As the raven haired was just about to head to her bedroom, Clara appeared standing accross the hallway giving her a stern look. Great. Lauren thought to herself.

"Where have you been?" she asks her in a monotonous tone.

"I was at Camila's" she answered. That was somewhat true. She was with Camila but she was not exactly at her at her place obviously.

Clara raised her eyebrow at that response "What could you be doing there this late?"

'Is she being serious?' Lauren thought to herself "It's not even 10 mom" She said, seeing her mother's head tilt a little.

"You didn't answer my question young lady" Clara kept the conversation going, persistent to know about Lauren's whereabouts.

This scenario is all too familiar to Lauren. Her mom trying to get all up in her business, not even giving her a bit of freedom.

She didn't like how Clara was giving her so much attention. There were only three of them in this house and sometimes she wishes she had chosen to stay with her dad and his brother Chris instead.

"We did this group thing...for school" Lauren lied.

"Oh," Clara's facial expression relaxed a bit, much to Lauren's relief. She already knew that if her excuse was something school-related, it will surely slip.

"Well you could've just invited here you know?" Her mom suggested, she tried so hard not to roll her eyes at her mom. Why does her mom always want to imprison her in their house? What's the deal if she was out of the house every now and then? Those were the questions that was going on in the young lady's mind right now.

"Next time, Mom" she gave her a fake smile "I'm gonna go to bed now, Goodnight" she said as she walked over to her bedroom door. Clara just nodded at her, but as soon as Lauren opened her door her mother called her again,

"Oh Lauren," she called her quietly.

"Hm?" her daughter responded.

"I've been planning to talk to you about college" Lauren kept quiet and just looked away. She can't be serious right now. She thought to herself.

Lauren wanted to be an artist, not anything else. She doesn't need her mom to plan out for what she becomes in the future.

"but... Tomorrow," her mom spoke again "Go get some rest child" she smiled at her and left the hallway.
