Chapter Four
I step out of the car as Ethan leads me over to a ledge a while away.
"I come up here to think sometimes. It's my special spot. However, you look like you need it more than me right now." Ethan said looking out to the sunset.
"It's beautiful."
"If I could draw I would want to draw this. This is what would be my inspiration. I would love to have this in my mind forever."
We sit there in silence just taking in the view. Eventually the only light around us is the lights from the city.
"Do you bring people up here often?"
"No. If I show it to a ton of people then it won't be my spot. It will be everyone's."
"Then why did you take me here?"
"I told you. You aren't the girl I thought you were. This is my way of saying sorry. We aren't friends but you aren't that bad," Ethan said nudging me.
"Thank you Ethan. This is just what I needed right now."

*MONDAY MORNING*
"I can do this, I can do this."
I kept repeating the simple phrase as I walked to my possible death. Saturday Ethan came over and we studied for today's history test.
"I can do this."
A couple of more steps-
"Nope, I can't do this," I said as I turned away from the history room door.
"Claire, you will do fine," Ethan said pulling me back toward the room.
"I can do this."
If only I believed my own words.

"See it's over," Ethan said walking over to me after the test.
"I failed. I totally bombed that test. Ethan, I will never graduate. I'm a disgrace to my family."
"You did fine. Don't sweat it."

*LUNCH*
I walked into the lunch room and sat down at my usual table. It isn't the same without Kris.
"Look at the little loner," Stacy said walking toward me.
I ignored her pulling out my lunch.
"Don't ignore me," she said grabbing my lunch and throwing it into the floor.
"Let's get something set straight, Stacy," I said as I stood up getting into her face, "you stay out of my way and I'll stay out of yours. Just because Kris is gone doesn't mean I'm going to let you walk all over me. Stop picking on others to make yourself feel better. I'm done cowering down while you pick on me. Ten long years have passed since you began making me your personal victim. I'm done and it took me long enough to stand up for myself. Do me a favor, get out of my life and get your own."
After I finished my spiel, I turned around and walked out of the cafeteria as a new woman. Stacy Harris is done picking on me.
"That was pretty impressive."
I knew that voice.
"What do you want Jack?" I asked turning around.
"I'm not the enemy here."
