Everything Changed

Chapter 6:

Dom's POV

    I walked into Monica's bedroom where she was sitting on the ground playing with her doll that Jackie had bought her before she was born. She looked up at me and smiled.

    "We should get you ready so we're not late to see mommy." I said smiling down at my daughter who made this life worth living for and made waiting for Jackie worth it.

    She nodded then walked over and sat down on her bed, i walked over to the closet that my dad helped me make in my apartment when i got custody of Monica. I opened the door and looked at her she smiled then jumped off her bed and walked over to me.

    "Up. Up daddy. Up." She said reaching her small thin arms up at me and i couldn't help but chuckle.

    I picked her up and she grabbed all the clothes she wanted to wear.

    I put her down and she took off her pjs that’s she still had on. I held the purple sweater dress in my hands with the white tights hanging from my hand. She walked over and took out a pair of undies then slipped them on while i grabbed her purple fauxsuede adoraboots. She had her undies on when i turned around and helped her put her tights on then the dress. When she was dressed she put her boots on and then i walked over to her dresser and grabbed the untangle spray and the brush. I had her sit down in her crown beanbag in front of me while i sat on her bed and combed through her hair slowly trying not to hurt her.

    When i was done with her hair she grabbed her white hat and put it on.

    "I all done daddy. Can we go see mommy yet?" She asked looking up at me with her blue eyes that i couldn't help but smile when she looked at me with them.

    "Do you have your present for mommy?" I asked her.

    She gasped then looked around her room and found the black and pink polka dot box that held the present for Jackie. She nodded then i held my hand for her to take and we walked out of her bedroom into the living room.

    The door opened while i was putting on my black varsity style jacket. i looked at the door and saw my dad standing there.

    "We ready to go see mommy?" He asked looking at Monica. She nodded then jumped up and down and ran into my dads open arms.

    He picked her up and hugged her then held her on his hip, i grabbed my keys and my black and white Yankee fitted hat and we left the house after i locked the door.

    We walked out to the truck and my dad had Monica hop down from his hip and i put her into her seat while my dad started the truck. When she was all buckled in i went around and got into the passenger seat next to my dad and we left the apartment complex where i was staying with Monica until Jackie got out.

    We were about to get onto the highway when i had my dad pull into Honey Dew's drive threw so Monica could have something to eat before we got to the school/jail thing.

    "Baby what do you want to eat?" I asked her looking at her as i took out my wallet.

    "Buebwrry Bagel with coco milk." She said pointing at the menu. I nodded then my dad ordered her food and drink. He looked at me and i shrugged, "If you want something then get something dad i don't mind. Just get me a Pepsi." He nodded then ordered his coffee and a donut and my Pepsi. When he pulled up to the front window i saw my best friend’s girl working at the window.

    "Hey Dom. Hey Richard. Hi Monica" She said smiling handing my dad our things. I reached back and grabbed Monica's cup and poured her milk into it then handed it to her.

    "Hey Tammy. Monica say hi to Tammy." I said as i handed her the money and she handed back the change.

    "Hey Tam." She said after taking a sip of her milk.

    Tammy chuckled then we said goodbye and got onto the highway, i finished putting the cream cheese on the bagel and handed a napkin to Monica who placed it on her lap then took her first half of the bagel and began to eat it.

    "Eat slow alright baby." I said.

    "Otay Daddy." She answered back  after eating a bite.

    I opened my Pepsi and looked ahead of us.

    Soon Monica finished one half and fell asleep so it was just me and my dad in the car awake.

    "What you think she's going to say when she sees her." My dad asked me.

    I sighed then shrugged, "I'm not sure dad. Monica keeps asking when Jackie's coming home and that could change at any time. Hell Jackie may end up not coming home until Monica is older."

    My dad put his hand on my shoulder and I looked at him and he nodded. I knew what he expected me to do but when did I ever do what everyone expect me to? Knocking up Jackie, no one expected me to be with her longer then the night she went to that party and look 3 years later and I’m her kids father and he boyfriend/fiancé.

    We got to the school and my dad parked in the visitor’s spots, I grabbed my drink and got out of the car. Monica was still asleep and I didn’t want to wake her up until we were inside.

    I unbuckled her car seat and picked her up putting her head laying on my shoulder. I shut the door and my dad locked the truck and we went into the place where Jackie would be for god knows how long.

    We walked in and stood in a big room with other people who must have been there to see their family members or loved ones who were on the inside like Jackie is. Finally we got to go in and I saw Jackie sitting at a table looking for us. I stopped where I was and slowly woke up Monica, she rubbed her eyes and looked at me while her head was still laying on my shoulder. I smiled then looked towards Jackie, Monica picked up her head and looked. Her eyes grew wide as she saw her mother. She moved in my arms until I put her down and she just stood there looking at Jackie who looked back. Then everything seemed to change.
