One Step Closer/ Twenty-Five

Alonzo worked on arranging the end caps near the registers, when he heard his name being whispered. He looked to his right, to Condi….Alonzo walked to her. “Wassup?”

“Kara has been skimming funds from, the register. We saw the film footage on Friday night. She had some guy come in, and passed the money off to him, in his shopping bag so she wouldn’t be caught with it,”

Alonzo rolled his eyes. He wasn’t particularly big on Kara, but he was hoping she would get it right, and not slide into further into her injurious nature. Condi carefully pointed over to the snack center. “There’s the guy…I want you to jam him before he gets to the door after he passes through her line. That will give security enough time to get up front,”

“Okay,” agreed Alonzo, as he walked back to his area. He was about two registers away from Kara, and continued along with his straightening. The front end supervisors had purposely avoided adding more cashiers for right now, because of the whole situation. He watched as the guy slid through Kara’s line with a small item…Kara rung it up, and then slid him the receipt, and something else into the bag. The guy started to move, as did Alonzo. He picked up the security alert tags for clothes, and slipped it into the guy’s bag, on the sly…

The tag alarm went off, as Alonzo and a supervisor walked to the guy…he slowly started trying to inch out of the door. “Sir, can we check your bag to make sure a security tag wasn’t still attached?”

“I didn’t buy anything with a tag!” he argued, backing away. The supervisor held out his hand. “Let us check…if you didn’t get anything with a tag, then we apologize for the inconvenience,”

“Sir, let us roll it across the security sensor…it only takes a few minutes,” said Alonzo. The man corralled the bag in his hand…by that time, security had reached the front door…the guy froze, as security hemmed him up. Alonzo looked to the register, as Condi had security to grab Kara, as well. Condi took the register drawer that Kara was working on. Kara wrestled, in security’s clutches. “You BITCH! I fuckin hate you! I didn’t do anything! You always had it in for me, you fuckin black bitch! And I hate you too, Alonzo, you fuckin SNITCH! You fuckin sold me out! That’s why you gonna lose that case! You aint never gonna see Kylie again, you bitchmade bastard!”

“Nice job, Lonzo,” said the supervisor, as he took the bag. The front end supervisors then assigned the newly arrived cashiers to their designated registers. Alonzo followed the supervisor, Benjamin, to the back office area, where the guy and Kara were cuffed…Kara was crying, and wiggling in her seat. “I’m sorry…just let me go…I wont ever come back here, I promise,”

“Of course, you’re not gonna come back here anymore. If you do, we will have you arrested for trespassing…and don’t even try to implement Alonzo, in anything. We’ve been watching you for a while, Kara. Alonzo had nothing to do with you,” said Condi.

“You fucking black bitch! You think you so fuckin high and mighty!” screamed Kara. “You aint shit!”

Condi stood up. “I might be a black bitch, but I’m my own bitch. I won’t be passed around like a pack of smokes at the county jail,”
