Prologue

Her eyes burned with tears, lids so swollen from crying she didn't think she could keep them open anymore. Why'd this have to happen? She thought to herself as she hugged onto the pillow, muffling her sobs so she wouldn't wake up Leo.

His little feet padded to her room, and she felt his small palm rest against her shoulder.

"Luna?" Leo asked, "Can I sleep with you tonight?"

Luna turned to face him, he clung to his pillow, his eyes red from crying during the morning. "What's wrong, Leo? Did you have a nightmare?" she croaked, patting his head in comfort.

Leo's eyes began to water, but he didn't allow it to spill. "Will you leave me like Mommy and Daddy?"

Her lips trembled at the vulnerability his face expressed. She made room for Leo on the bed beside her, and he climbed underneath her blankets. Pulling him close, she couldn't avoid the tears from falling so she hid her face, tucking his head underneath her chin.

"Don't leave me, Luna, I promise to be a good boy," he whimpered.

"I'll always be here, Leo, we'll always have each other," said Luna in a quaky voice, as an onslaught of tears soaked her pillow.

Chapter One

"Whatsit mean to be a 'prude'?" asked the five year-old tugging at the hem of Luna's grey muscle shirt.

"Where did you hear that from, Leo?" she asked, reaching for his small hand. Luna quickly crossed the street towards her car, holding onto him tightly.

"Jake's father said if you weren't a prude, he'd pay the daycare," Leo's violet eyes looked at her with worry.

That bastard... Jake's father, Blake has been trying to make moves on her a week after she started bringing Leo to Agatha's Daycare. To top it off, he was a married man. She despised those kind of men the most. "Don't worry baby, your big sis has everything under control," she kissed the top of his head after the seat buckle was secured.

"He said something mean, didn't he?" Leo's brows furrowed with anger. "I knew it! I shoulda punched him in the face."

"Whoa there buddy," Luna chuckled, "You shouldn't go punching people in the face just because they said something you don't like." Even if that's what she told Leo, she was proud that he loved her so fiercely.

Luna couldn't imagine a life without Leo. They were inseparable since the day he was born and nothing has changed since. Not even after the day her parent's died in a flight crash on the way to Hawaii for their wedding anniversary. She didn't want her thoughts going down that road again.

"I'm going to drop you off at Rissa's house okay? I have to work again tonight." During the days from Monday through Friday she worked at a dealership, detailing cars; and at night time Thursday through Sunday she worked at her friend's Christie's Bar till 2 am. Today was Thursday so it's one of the busiest days and nights for her. Thirsty Thursday is what Christie calls every Thursday.
