"Elizabeth, hurry up!" A boy laughed, pulling on his friend's hand. Elizabeth laughed, running with him towards the sandbox.
"Let's make a big castle!" He beamed. Elizabeth nodded her head and started to help him building the castle. She picked up a plastic shovel, making her hand it to the boy.
"Bobby, wasn't this Adrian's shovel?" She asked. Bobby smiled and grabbed it.
"Yea, it was... I wonder how he's doing with his new family." Bobby spoke with enthusiasm.
"I remember his new mommy say that she has a dog! Do you think we'll leave the orphanage someday and have a dog too?"
"Wow, a dog sounds cool!" Elizabeth said before pausing. "But I wanna stay here. All of my friends are here," she said in a quieter tone. Bobby picked up a leaf and started playing with it.
"Yea, I like it here too. But I want a mommy and a daddy. Wouldn't you? And a dog too!"
"I mean I guess." Elizabeth said with a shrug.
"Guys! Guys!" a voice called behind them. Turning their heads, the two kids faces brightened.
"Hi, Tammy!" Bobby yelled. Tammy made it to the sandbox and took deep breaths since she's been running all over the place.
"Have you heard?" She asked. Bobby and Elizabeth tilted their heads in confusion.
"Heard what?" Tammy smiled bright.
"Two England men is at the orphanage right now!" She said, her voice full in excitement.
"England men?" Bobby asked. "What's that?"
"I think it's the people who live in London, I think." Tammy said, not really understanding herself since her 10 year old mind is limited to this type of thing.
"I heard them say they came here to California,"
"Oh, it's those people with those accents!" Bobby smiled. "I know that,"
"Anyways, what're they doing here?" Elizabeth asked. Tammy jumped up and down a little.
"They said they're looking for a kid!" Bobby stood up.
"Really?" Tammy nodded her head.
"Mrs. Peter's said she's going to call the kids in when they-" just then a small bel was chimed, grabbing their attention.
"Children, c'mon now! Let's get inside," Mrs. Peter's said. Tammy smiled.
"She's calling is in right now." Grabbing Elizabeth and Bobby's hands, she trudged them along.
The three got inside and stood in the line with the other kids. Elizabeth walked over to Mrs. Peters and tugged at her arm.
"Mrs. Peters, can I go to my room? I don't wanna be in line," Elizabeth spoke.
"Silly girl, don't worry it'll be quick. And who knows, maybe it's your lucky day." The women said. Elizabeth knew not to talk back, so she went and stood in between Bobby and Tammy.
"Children, this is Dan and Phil, they're looking for a child to adopt. They just moved here to California from the U.K." Mrs. Peters said. All the children looked at the doorway as two men walked in.
"Hello," the brown haired man greeted. The children looked up in awe, the two men were very tall. A little girl raised her hand.
"Um... yes Jessica?" Mrs. Peters said.
"Why does your voice sound funny?" She asked.
"Jessica!" Mrs. Peters scolded. The two men chuckled though, not minding her question.
"Yes, Jessica, our voices are just a bit different." He said.
"Well, you can pick who will be your new child." Mrs. Peters smiled. One of the men walked towards the end of the line and the other the opposite way.
"This is cool," Tammy whispered to Elizabeth.
"It is," Bobby answered. They all shared a quiet chuckle. Elizabeth looked up, and immediately she shut her mouth and so did Bobby and Tammy.
The man with black hair got down on one knee to get eye level with the children. But Elizabeth felt petrified because his blue eyes were staring right at her.
"Hello, what's your name love?"
