Shawn•

I sat at a table in the corner of the club. I admit Greg was right when he said the place would be packed. I really wasnt feeling the whole mask thing but I figured it would come in handy. Paula didnt know I was here and I planned on keeping it that way so to avoid people noticing who I am.. I placed the mask on and slipped my ring on the opposite hand.

I had my share of drinks since we arrived and something deep down inside of me was telling me too leave.

It wasnt like I was all up on the women like a single man but I knew I wasnt suppose to be here. I had chatted with a few ladies but I knew how far to go.

"Yo man why you sitting here looking pitiful?" Greg said as he sat down in front of me.

"I aint feeling this man."

"What? All this ass up in here man."

"My ass is at home. I aint single nomo."

"You right man.."

"Plus.. I need to get up out of here."

"Aight."

Greg and I exited the club and walked back to his car.

"My bad Shawn. I got caught up in all them women up in there."

"Thats exactly why I had to leave.. before things got worse." I said as I walked to the passenger side and got in.

"What you mean got worse?" Greg asked as he closed his door.

"Nothing."

"Awh man dont wuss up on me now. Did you talk to someone?" Greg asked as he drove down the road.

".. I did. She was alright man."

"Umm."

"The drinks got to me.."

"Awh Shawn dont tell me you slipped up.."

"No..no. I was in my feelings man. I fucked up and got a hold of some Jack."

"Shit Shawn! You know what they say about that nigga."

"Well its true."

We pulled up in the Greg's driveway and he cut the engine off.

"I cant help but feel like this is my fault."

"It is."

"Dont rub it in man. I didnt think you'd end up doing that shit."

"Me either.. P gone be hella pissed man." I said as I rubbed my face.

"Aye.. Paula aint got to know man. She find out she's going to chew our asses out.. nah.. she can't find out."

"See thats the shit that fucks up a relationship."

"It'll just be between you and me like I said before."

I shook my head as I stared up at the roof of the car.

"I dont know.." I said as I got out the car and headed to his front door.

Greg got out, locked the car and followed me.

"How serious was your chat with this woman?" Greg asked as he unlocked the front door.

"Real serious."

We walked in and sat down in the living room.

"Is it serious enough that you have to fess up?"

I paused for a minute.

"Look Greg.. no matter how you try and make this situation seem like nothing.. it was something. I got a good woman at home..everything a man could ask for and then some.. and here I am.. in a club checking out other women."

Greg was silent.

"I let the liquor get to me. I was really feeling it man. I wore my heart on my sleeve."

"Shawn.. Everybody makes mistakes."

"I knew what I was getting myself into when I walked up in that place."

"She's you wife Shawn.. and I got mad respect for you and how yoy choose to handle yours.. If it happens to come down to it.. I'm sure she'll understand."

"Me too. Its just how am I going to tell her."

"Dont rush it.. just sleep on it man.. it'll come to you.."

I laid back on the couch as Greg left me to punder in my thoughts.

I woke up early the next morning and my mind was still running wild. I pulled out my phone and saw that Paula had called. I told her that I would start telling her more about where I am but I wasnt doing a good job at it. I knew it wasnt a good idea to call at the moment so I just shot her a text.

Me: Goodmorning babe, I'm sorry I didnt return your call. I stayed with Greg last night.. I'll call you when I think youre up. Love ya. 9:02am

I went to my car to get my gym bag and decided to take a shower.

I put on a pair of white gym shorts, a black under armor muscle shirt and my sneakers.

"Where you headed?" I heard Greg ask walking from his room.

"Im going to see pops."

"I thought you work on Saturdays."

"I'm the boss. I call the shots man."

"Right. You decided on what you going to do?"

"Naw man. I'm bout to go see pops and maybe it'll come to me."

"Alright man. I'll be out there later on."

"Aight." I said as I grabbed my things and walked out the door.

I got into my car and backed out the driveway heading  to the hospital. When I reached my dads room it was just him inside. I wouldve thought my mother was there but I'm sure she's on her way.

I walked up to his bedside and stuck my hands in my pockets.

"Whats up pops?" I greeted softly.

His eyes fluttered open as he looked up at me.

"I know I dont usually come this early but I need to see you." I started. "I got a little problem.."

I knew my father wasnt capable of speaking but I knew he was listening. I informed him about what had went down last night when I was with Greg.

"I know going out with Greg wasnt the smartest thing to do but I needed a few drinks and I didnt want to leave Greg hanging. I was wrong pops.. I know it and if you could speak right now I know you'd give me hell. I love Paula.. with all my soul and I hate keeping secrets. I got to tell pops." I said as I bowed my head and gripped his bed rails through confusion.

I felt him reach up and place a shakey hand on mine. I looked upon his face for an answer that was clear as day. He slowly nodded his head and I knew what I had to do.

"I hear you pops." I said to him. "I'll be back."

I walked out the hospital and got into my car to head home. The plan was to go home and tell Paula everything but I ended up talking myself out of it. I decided to get a third and final opinion. I changed my route and headed to my destination.
