If you look in the dictionary under Hell, you'll find my school. I regretted Phoenix talking me into going today. This was so terrible. Every time someone from my pack would see me, they would just stare. It was extremely unnerving.

To make matters worse, my friends were ignoring me due to them hearing that I didn't let Kaine go. Mike was the only one who was still talking to me. I kind of felt like he was only around me because he had to be. He was high ranking, so he had to protect me. It made me feel terrible, knowing that even my friends didn't want to be around me.

My first three classes went as smoothly as they could. Lunch was a different story. All eyes were on me when I walked in with Mike. He took me by the arm and steered me towards Phoenix immediately.  He was sitting outside under the only huge tree.

When we reached Phoenix, he glanced up at us, eyes clear of emotion. He had been like this all day. I could tell he was still upset that I didn't let Kaine go look for my father, but he wouldn't admit it. He just looked at me for a minute before going back to looking at his phone. My heart ached, but I didn't let it show. I just sat down a few feet from him and let Mike sit between us.

It was absolutely silent for about five minutes. All I could hear was my own heart beating and Mike's soft breathing from next to me.  I glanced around Mike and at Phoenix. He was looking straight forward at the wall of the school.

I couldn't help but notice how gorgeous he was. His deep brown hair looked like he had just gotten out of bed, and I knew that was the case. The normal sea-blue of his eyes was now a solid sapphire color. The tightness of his jaw gave him a rough look, like he was prepared to pounce. He may have been upset, but it only made him even more beautiful. He was always so loving, so it was odd to see him like this. Under the rough exterior, I could tell he was hurt. His eyes showed it all. He was an open book, just waiting to be read. He was hurt because I had gone against him.

The silence extended a little further before Mike seemed to get antsy. His eyebrows furrowed and his mouth twisted. Finally, he jumped up and stared down at the two of us.

"Stop being so damn mopey! I know you got into a little argument, but that doesn't mean you have to be so stupid about it!" He looked agitated, and I knew he really meant what he said.

Phoenix glared at him. "You seem to have forgotten that you're speaking to your Alpha and Luna," he growled.

Mike just rolled his eyes and shook his head. "I'm saying this as a friend. Stop being such babies and work it out." He looked directly at Phoenix. "You're killing the poor girl. Don't you think she's been through enough?  Right now, she needs her mate there for her. Her friends are gone, her family hates her... You're all she has left. How about you start acting the part." With that, Mike walked – more like stomped- off, leaving us speechless.

Phoenix turned to look at me, his eyes sad. "I'm sorry, Dahlia. I didn't even think about that."

I looked away from his piercing eyes, afraid to see the pain in them. I heard his soft sigh, and then shuffling. His arms slid around my shoulders, pulling me into his side. He rested his cheek on top of my head after kissing my hair softly.

"I love you."

Hearing him say those words not only relieved me, but also crushed me. I had done nothing but hurt him. How could he still love me?

My question seemed to stir my wolf from inside of her dungeon. I could almost see her raise her head from her paws and stare at me.

You're serious, aren't you? I internally sighed at her question, giving her an answer. She didn't seem to like it.

I swear, if I could slap you, I would. He was right when he said you were stupid. Of course he still loves you! He's your mate, it's what he does. He's just worried. Now that Kaine isn't looking for your father, you're in a lot of danger. He threatened to torture and kill you!

I shook my head at her reasoning, causing Phoenix to look down at me in confusion. He must have seen the glaze in my eyes because he went back to resting his cheek on my head. I closed my eyes, not wanting to believe my wolf.

I waited for her to say something else, but it seemed that she went back behind her walls. It wasn't abnormal. She never said much to me unless it she found something I thought or said insane. She never used to come out, but now it seemed that she was always here. I could always feel her at the surface, opposed to deep in the back of my mind.

The sounds of footsteps caused me to open my eyes. I saw three pairs of legs in front of me; two clad in leggings, and the other in jeans. I looked up only to see Ryan, Cass, and Kandi standing there, apologetic expressions on their faces.

Kandi was the first one to speak. "I'm so sorry I ignored you today. We all are. We're just in shock after what happened with Beta Kaine. I guess it was just hard for us to believe. I don't know why he was supposed to leave, but I know it was to protect you. Now I'm just rambling... Can you ever forgive me?" Her voice grew small towards the end, her eyes showing how nervous she was.

I reluctantly pulled myself out of Phoenix's arms to stand and hug her. She gasped at the contact, but quickly hugged me back. Without warning, both Ryan and Cass joined in on the hug, yelling, "Yay, group hug!" We all laughed and separated.

I turned to Cass and saw that she had tears in her eyes. "I've missed you, girl." She hugged me again, rocking us back and forth.

Ryan repeated the action, but picked me up and spun me in circles. "Our lives are so dull without you!" I laughed at his words and wiggled my way out of his arms.

I had a permanent smile stretched across my face, thrilled to have my friends back. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Mike walk towards us with a smile on his face. I turned to him, figuring that he was the one who told them to come see me.

I backed up to look at all of my friends, and ended up in the arms of my mate. I twisted my head around to look up at him and noticed the small smile on his face. His eyes were back to their beautiful shining blue color, making him look absolutely adorable. I couldn't help but giggle at how everything was turning out.

I must have spoken too soon, because I got the familiar pull in my head of someone from my pack trying to contact me. I blocked them out, my smile dropping. I looked around frantically, seeing no one from my pack in the courtyard. Phoenix noticed my distress and looked at me curiously. I ignored him, still trying to figure out who was trying to contact me without actually letting them in.

I looked at the door to the entrance of the cafeteria and saw an incredibly familiar face. My breathing sped up and my heart started beating wildly in my chest. The figure had a blank expression on its face; one I knew far too well.

I struggled out of Phoenix's arms and ran in the opposite direction of the figure. I heard the voices of my friends and mate calling after me, but I just kept running until I made it off of school grounds. My head whipped around, looking for a place to run. I spotted an entrance to the forest next to my school and went straight for it.

My body relaxed slightly when I made it to the forest, feeling somewhat safe. I thought, maybe I'd get away, but I was quickly proven wrong when a hand whipped out in front of my face and covered my mouth. I started screaming, muffled by the large hand.

A sharp pain in my head caused me to shut up. I struggled to keep my eyes open, the blow to my head making me feel unexpectedly tired. I was turned to look at my attacker. I whimpered at the cold look on his face. His eyes narrowed, taking in my scared expression.

My mouth was uncovered, taking away any support keeping me standing. I fell to the hard ground, my hands shooting up to cradle my wounded head. I looked back up at him, my vision tunneling. He crouched down, looking into my eyes.

An evil smirk started forming on his face, causing my heart to beat louder. His familiar brown eyes held hate. From where he was, I could smell the alcohol on his breath. His head tilted slowly to the right and his hand reached up to softly cradle my face.

"Sister."
