The next night

Dan P.O.V

The blackout came sooner than I thought. It was 6:30pm last I checked. The TV shut off and the lights went out. It wasn't light out anymore this time of day for it being December. I turned on the battery operated lamp, nothing happened.

"Phil! I thought you said you put batteries in the lamp?!" Phil ran into the room. "Oh... I forgot to tell you. We're all out I cannot find any!" I looked down at the floor. I closed my eyes. I was terrified. I hated the dark, but I couldn't tell Phil that, I couldn't tell anyone that!

"Let's go to my room, I put both our DS's in there, let's go." I stood up, I almost collapsed. Phil came over to me and hugged me. "You okay?" No, no not at all! "Yep"

"Let's go to my room, I put both our DS's in there, let's go." Dan stood up. He looked almost a pale green. His knees buckled and he started to collapse. I quickly stepped over to him and pulled him out, bringing him into a hug.

"You okay?" I looked at him for an answer. He looked scared. "Yep." He quickly responded. He lied.

The short journey back into my room was extremely long. Dan walked really slowly holding onto my arm. I've seen enough. I didn't want him to suffer.

"I think I might have a flashlight in here." I said. I knew I did. I put it there this morning just incase this would happen. Dan picked up his DS and reluctantly turned it on. His face illuminated with the bright light. I came back over a turned on the flashlight, pointing it at the ceiling.

One hour later

The lights started to flicker and then they were on. Dan turned off his DS, having just beating me again at Mario Cart, and stood up looking relieved. We checked our phone to see it was 11:13 pm.

"Uh..." Dan said. I looked up into his hazel eyes. Wait isn't hazel what you use to describe cute? I wasn't going to think of that. "I'm going to bed, night."
"Night." I replied.

Dan shuffled out of my room, I changed into fleece pajama pants and old t-shirt. I looked at my door, the hallway lights were off, but I could still see Dan's lights on. I sat there for almost 45 minutes dazing in and out of consciousness. I looked up to see the light was still on.

I got up with my legs stiffening as I did so. I opened Dan's bedroom door, it squeaked and I cringed. I looked in to see Dan curled up on his bed, his hair fluffed up and hands hugging himself. I knew now that I was right, he was afraid of the dark, but how would I get him to admit it. I wasn't going to turn off the light, he would know that I was here. I closed the door quietly and flopped down on my bed where I instantly fell asleep.
