The last month had been filled with nothing but writing and recording and re-recording and re-writing and perfecting until the very late at night. It had taken a toll on all of us. The boys and I... we were tired. It's been fun, but it's a grueling process that we weren't use to. There's a lot more structure that goes into professionally recording an album, and we weren't exactly the structure loving people. I feel like Lou and Johnny both have threatened to quit the process at least 5 times each. I think they both hate all of our management at this point. I can't begin to tell you how many times our producer, Leo, has been cussed out. Poor guy.
In the mean time, as I've dealt with the ridiculousness of my band mates, I've been working on my friendships with the 5sos guys. I wanted to make sure at least one of us in the band has a friendly relationship with them before we were all forced to hang out with each other for long periods of time on the road, something they've assured me is even more grueling than the album writing process.
The guys and I had the day off after Lou had a bit of a meltdown in the studio yesterday. They had us record one of our singles over and over to the point where he threw his drumsticks across the room, got up, and left for the day. To say he had a temper tantrum was putting it lightly. After that meltdown, I persuaded our management to just give us some time off. It was clear that we needed it. We were almost done with the recording anyway, we just had a few finishing touches. They could be done later. Right now, everyone needed a little mental health break.
Since we had the day off, I decided I was going to go hang out with the 5sos guys. They were working on some new stuff, and invited me to come along. Since Johnny said he was going to be sleeping all day I figured why not. I pulled into the driveway of their shared house and as soon as I got out of the car I could hear Michael yelling from inside. I took a deep breath, preparing myself for a day of hanging out with 4 basically teenage boys... Sometimes they were harder to deal with than the band, but it was a different kind of difficulty. Johnny, Lou, and Ian... they were moody. The 5sos boys, they were just teenagers. They weren't really, but they acted like it. Or at least they did to me. I was 3 years older than their oldest member, and that may not seem like a lot, but it is.
As I got to the door, I decided not to bother knocking and let myself in. As I was slipping off my shoes I yelled for the guys to get there attention and suddenly a shirtless Calum greeted me with his award-winning smile at the top of the stairs.
"Sheena is a punk rocker!" He sang to me and I rolled my eyes.
"Hello, Calum." I say in the most 'over it' voice I can muster. A couple weeks ago we were hanging out and I expressed how much I hated when people sang that song to me. Now they do it just to annoy me. Normally I wouldn't let it slide, but I learned a while back that I couldn't treat these boys like I treat Lou, Johnny, and Ian. They were two completely different personality types.
"Is Sheena here?" An unidentified Australian voice came from the top of the stairs behind Calum. Suddenly, Michael appeared and beamed at me. I gave him a little wave as he motioned for me to come up the stairs. I did as told and followed Calum and Michael into their gaming room.
"Where's Ash and Luke?" I ask and Michael shrugs at me as we sit on the couch.
"They're writing." Calum says, causing a laugh from Michael.
"They're not very good at writing together." Michael explains and I nod, understanding.
"Where are the guys today, Sheena?" Calum asks and I sigh.
"Umm... Ian is doing whatever Ian does with his days off when he's not sleeping on my couch. It's a mystery. Seriously, nobody knows." I try to explain when they look at me in disbelief. "Lou I'm sure is with a bird." I say, rolling my eyes. "He's got quite a few on retainer. I mean, it's not surprising. He's a good-looking guy. Lot's of ladies are usually willing to sleep with him. No not me." I glare at them both when I noticed their eyebrows rise. "And Johnny's sleeping today."
