After the proposal, Johnny and I both agreed that no work was going to get done, so we went home and decided to celebrate. By celebrate, yes I do mean fuck each other's brains out. We also did do some talking, not much, but we kind of discussed everything in a little bit more detail. Johnny said we could go look for a ring over the weekend, but we both kind of knew it wasn't our style. I mentioned I would rather get tattooed rings instead. Johnny loved the idea, but we figured we wanted to wait until after our ceremony. That way we had some time to think about what tattoo-ring we wanted. We've been together 7 years without rings. We could wait a little longer.
The next day, Johnny and I were still on cloud 9 from the previous events, but we really wanted everything to go back to normal. We've been together for so long, and aren't necessarily a flashy couple. So, we weren't treating it as that big of a deal. Thankfully, besides the occasional congratulations, people in the building weren't really bringing it up. Though, most people had heard the news already. Lou and Ian made sure of it.
Right now, Johnny and I were back at it in a different sound studio trying to write entirely new songs. Ian and Lou wanted to be apart of the songwriting process more than we were originally letting them, so we were all sitting at a small coffee table brainstorming with one of our producers.
"Have you guys ever tried, one person writing a line, and then so on and so forth?" Leo asked while grabbing a pen and notebook from the desk behind him. Leo is our producer, and though we didn't really want him to be super hands on in our album making, we had to admit he was helpful. He turned the notebook to a clean page and handed it to me as he continued to explain the concept of this writing style to us. "The next person who gets the notebook, is allowed to either change one word or phrase from the previous line, or they can write the next line."
"So I just... write a line?" I ask and he nods, encouraging me to try it out. I think for a second before I write a line down with a little smile on my face. "Sorry guys, this is going to be cliché." I say, passing the notebook to Johnny.
"You're not allowed to tell us the line! It needs to be a surprise for the next person, so when it all comes together you've got this amazing song and everyone has contributed equally!" Leo explains, adamant on the rules. I put my hands up to admit that I made the mistake and wouldn't make it again. This caused a little laugh from the guys and I noticed the notebook was now in Ian's hands. He groaned a little, reading it and took his time to figure out what he wanted to write next. Ian and Lou have the least amount of experience with songwriting. I was intrigued to see what they had written down. After a few minutes the notebook was finally passed back to me and I laughed as I took my first glance at the notebook page. Each line was written in a different chicken scratch, and there were scribbles everywhere. Though there were only three lines written, that messy piece of paper had encapsulated our band perfectly.
You say you wont wait forever on me
But I wouldn't make you wait that long
Sang drunk in my room to Geronimo
I wrote my next line with a smile on my face and we continued our game. There were laughs and silent critiques and within the hour we had a decent song put together. Lou and Ian were celebrating after feeling as though they contributed. Johnny and I were thankful, because it was another song down to add to the EP, and now there was only 1 song left to pick or write.
"I'm going to go grab something to drink from the vending machine downstairs. Anyone want anything?" I ask, looking around to the guys. Ian and Lou were goofing around while Johnny seemed very into whatever he was trying to work through on the guitar he had in his hands. None of them acknowledged what I said, so I just walked out. Assuming they were fine.
