Remember the Wrong One

I woke up to find bright blinding lights in my face.

I don't know where I am or how I got here. I'm so confused. I don't even know what time it is. I'm in a bed, alone, and as I can see, not in a house. The only thing I know is that I'm in a white room and there are machines everywhere. I lift up the white blanket covering me, only to find out I'm in a hospital gown.

What the hell happened?

Last thing I remember is getting married to Rachel.

Rachel.

Where is she? Where's Beth? Why am I here, alone?

Before anyone can answer my questions I see a girl walk in, she looks about six or seven. Her face is down but once she sees me her face lightens up and she starts jumping. I don't know what to do, but she runs to me and hugs me.

On instinct I hug back, then I hear it

"Daddy! I'm so happy you're finally awake!! I've missed you so much!!" The girl shouted

Then it hit me,

"Beth?" I ask

She pulls away

"Duh daddy! Who else would I be!" She giggled

I just smile, and I take a real good look at her. This girl, this seven or six year old girl, is my baby girl. I'm so confused, how long have I been asleep? Then I see her walk in.

She looks so different, yet the same. She looks much more grown up and matured, more beautiful, if that's even possible. She no longer has side bangs, but full front bangs, and her outfit is jeans and a peach colored shirt.

"Finn?" She asks

As soon as she speaks a bunch of nurses walk in. Oh now they walk in! Right when I see my wife. They check a bunch of things and write it down and then they head out leaving Rachel, Beth, and I alone.

"Hi Rachel," I smile

But she doesn't look too happy to see me, she just looks confused.

"Mommy, can I stay with daddy now that he's awake?" Beth asks

I frown in confusion, what does she mean stay with me? Aren't we all going home together?

"Um, let me call your nana Carol first, ok?" She asks Beth
"Ok!" She smiles

Before she leaves I stop her

"Rachel?" I ask

She turns to face me,

"What happened?" I ask unaware of why I'm here

She walks toward the bed and sits in front of me and Beth

"What do you mean? Don't you remember?" She asks
"No" I say confused
"Oh, well, um, after you dropped Beth off at my house, you got into a bad car accident" she said sad
"Oh, how long have I been out?" I asked
"Six months" she says frowning

I just nod my head, but I'm still confused. If it was just six months, then how is Beth six, or seven. Why did she say, my house? Aren't we together?

I think she notices my confusion, because she looks at me and frowns

"What?" She asks
"Why don't we live together?" I ask

I hear Beth

"Uh, oh"

Then Rachel widens her eyes,

"Finn, what's the last thing you remember?" She asks getting up

I think, and the only thing that's coming to mind is,

"The day we got married" I say

Rachel gasps

"What?" I ask

She sits back down,

"Finn, that was six years ago"
