The Beginning

I wasn't stable, not just yet.  The boy had seen to that.  But I am able to transform into many things, such as the girl's cat, or the girl herself

Evanlyn stared at Jae's body, lying still on the pavement.  She was still sitting down where Jae had pushed her back, his blood all down the front of her green shirt.  "This can't be happening" she thought.  The blood made her gag, the smell of it, the feel, it was too real. "Jae is... He's dead?"

She snapped out of her trance and ran towards him, careful to not step in the puddles of blood.  A small pool of blood was already forming around him.  His eyes were open, and he looked like he had seen something that frightened him.  Evanlyn felt his pulse. Nothing.

Shakily Evanlyn stood up. "Hey, where are you going?" a pedestrian called.  Evanlyn mumbled something about leaving and started walking away, slowly getting faster and faster.  In a couple seconds she was running away, her feet pounding against the pavement.

She kept running until she couldn't run anymore, and panting, she ducked into an alley and sat down against a wall.  The wall was cool, and Evanlyn closed her eyes and started to cry.

She didn't know how long she has been there, but it must have been a long time.  Her parents would be worried about her, but Evanlyn didn't really care.  Maybe she would just walk around the streets a bit, then return home.  She got up, brushing herself off, and realized that everything was strangely quiet.  The sound of cars and people talking was gone.  What was going on?

She stepped out into the middle of the street, and saw that everything was frozen.  Cars stopped in the middle of the road, a dog in mid step, a half eaten bagel in its mouth.  Evanlyn walked over to a bright red car and looked in through the window.  The driver was awake, his hands on the steering wheel, his mouth open, probably singing with the song currently on the radio.  "What?" she whispered.

A hand landed on her shoulder. Whirling around, she came face to face with a... Mirror?  The person looked exactly like her, except for the fact that the look alike's hair and eyes were a light green.

"You could save him, you know"

"What? Save Jae?"

"Yes. Is that not what I said?"

"That's impossible! He's..." she choked on the words. "He's dead."

"I can do it for you. In exchange, I want something from you."

"What?" Evanlyn asked cautiously.

"Not much. I just want happiness."

"Sorry? You want happiness?"

"I haven't felt happiness for a long time. I just need to feel it... Once more"

"Who are you?" Evanlyn asked, but the look alike ignored her question and continued.

"You get to loop back to save the girl as many times as you like. Each time you loop back, I receive some happiness from your past, present, and future life."

Evanlyn didn't know what to do. On one hand, Jae might not die! He would be alive, breathing, eating fro yo with her.  But in the other, she didn't really trust the look alike, even if it looked like her.

"Do you want to make a deal?" Her green look alike extended his hand.

"Um... Yes. Ok. Sure"  They shook.  "Now answer my previous question. What's your name?"

The green look alike smiled. "Just call me Time."

Time's eyes seemed to glow with a strange green light.  But as soon as Evanlyn saw it, it was gone. Her vision became fuzzy, and she blacked out.
