The black cat sat on the sidewalk, innocently licking his paws.

Evanlyn was dead. No, she couldn't be. This had to be all just a bad dream. Jae would wake up at any moment to his mother calling him for breakfast. But deep down inside, he knew that this was real. The blood on his hands, the sounds of the people, the smell of exhaust fumes - he could feel and hear it all.

Shakily he stood up, still looking down at her. Evanlyn's face was partially covered by her hair, her green shirt now turning darker with blood. He couldn't look any longer. Tearing his eyes from her body, he turned and ran. Tears blurring his vision, Jae ran blindly, shoving people aside. He didn't know where he was going, or how long he ran, but he stopped when he ran face first into a body.

"Sorry" Jae muttered, pushing past the person and hiding his face beneath his hair.

He was about to keep running when he realized that it was quiet. Not quiet, silent. That was odd. Looking up, he saw that everyone was frozen in time. Birds had stopped mid-flap. People were frozen, and one even had a sandwich halfway to his mouth. He glanced at the person he had run into and gasped. A person with red hair and eyes, wearing exactly what Jae was wearing. In fact, he looked a lot like Jae. EXACTLY like Jae.

"What...?"

"You could save her, you know"

Jae blinked. "Save Evanlyn?"

"Yes. Is that not what I said?" His voice was light and airy, and had a lulling effect.

"Is that possible? How? I don't even understand."

"I can do it for you. In exchange, I want something from you."

Jae suddenly was on guard. "What? What do you want?"

"Not much. I just want happiness."

"Happiness?"

"I haven't felt happiness for a long time. I just need to feel it... Once more"

"Strange request." Jae thought. Out loud, he said "How would this work?"

"You get to loop back to save the girl as many times as you like. Each time you loop back, I receive some happiness from your past, present, and future life."

Jae had a thousand thoughts swirling around in his head. He could save her! She could be alive tomorrow, instead of... well... Dead.

"Do you want to make a deal?" His red look alike extended his hand, a strange heat emitted from his hand.

Hesitantly, Jae shook the hand. "Yeah, ok. It's a deal"

The red look alike smiled, and Jae started to have second thoughts. But it was too late.

Small flames enveloped his body, wrapping him in a warm heat. The day started to blacken around him, his vision getting fuzzy. Before he blacked out, he called to the look alike.

"Whats your name? What should I call you?"

He smiled. "Just call me Time."

The last thing Jae saw before his vision went dark, was Time smiling at him. And for a moment, Jae though he saw Time's eyes glow, like he was planning something evil.

Time stood in the middle of the road, watching people frozen. He touched one with his hand, and they flared up and disappeared, as if they had never existed. He smiled, and his eyes glowed. A happy memory floated over to him from where Jae had once stood. A 6 year old birthday party. He had just gotten the stuffed bear he had been wanting for so long. Time drank in the happiness, sucking it out of the air.

Yes, this was going to be interesting.
