Can't Explain It

The sun doesn't shine

the moon has faded
the stars no longer twinkle in the night sky
And now I can't explain it.

The clouds have turned charcoal

and the rains won't stop
and God doesn't look down anymore
And now I just can't explain it.

Solitude stands in the corner
despair hides in the cracks
the shadows dance on the ceiling

And now I just can't explain it.

The smile has been erased
the laughter put back on the shelf
all the pretty maids in a row
the garden is barren
only the weeds of time reside there now
And now I really can't explain it.

Sorrow lays down its weary head
bereft of all emotion

he waits in vain, for hope to hold his hand
maybe even hold him close

to wipe away the salty tears of anguish
to make the sun shine again
and the stars to dance in the inky sky
with their dresses of silver twinkling as they twirl.

Hope with all her fanciful ideas

watches sorrow as he cries
she knows the sunbeams must burst
and he must find his own, look inside
take out the pages and re -read the words
and let his soul return to the crossroads
cast out the Devil, say the words he must
tell himself that it hurts
without hope by his side.

Along the horizon I see, the beauty within the darkness
the faceless ones with torn out pages
the voiceless ones with faded notes on sepia toned memories
they walk on worn out shoes on a endless highway.

I see, I see it all
And I really can't explain it...
