Is he aware that you don't want him to be too controlling? If not, you should really tell him. Because it's clear that he loves you, but in a strong relationship, he needs to be able to trust you. So if you can bring up the topic, with your boyfriend, you should ask him if he trusts you.
Honestly, it's kind of cute hearing that he loves you enough to get jealous of other guys around you. You must be pretty lovable. But in saying so, protective boyfriends are just jealous and insecure. So try to get rid of his insecurities, by showing him that you only have the hots for him.
Ask him for the space you deserve, but tell him you would only love him. And that, by giving you, your space, he is giving you more reasons to love him. I really hope that I helped out a little, and wish you the best with your boyfriend ^-^.
