After This
©2010, Olan L. Smith
Leaves lay crumpled in yard
Brown-
Drying-
Dead-
Lifeless entities
Left to rake, burn
Or rot where they pile,
Abandoned trees
Forsaken-
Denuded-
Silhouettes-
In the sun,
Like whispery shadows
Before a luminous orb.
Leaves-
Like our bodies
Become
Fertilizer for Gaia's
Enriched blackened soil,
Readied for cultivation.
Vestiges-
Are our spirits
Homeless-
Like leaves departing their progenitor
Perhaps floating in ether-
Or purgatory-
Even Hades;
Yet, heaven anticipates
Those who recognize
Love.
