chapter 6

Emily went to tell them that it was right after she broke up with her then boyfriend John and it was seven weeks after Ben and Rachel first started talking online and Rachel had to leave for Australia so she had asked Emily to deactivate her account for her as she didn't want any distractions and wanted to focus on her internship. Emily went onto Rachel's account to do so but noticed the emails and decided to read them. She saw a reply from Ben stating "I wanna get to know you better Rachel", seeing this Emily decided to reply as a joke but then she never decided to put a stop to it and kept emailing him over the years. Emily felt a connection with Ben and thought she could relate to him, she mentioned how she started feeling guilty pretending to be Rachel. As Rachel's trip from Australia ended, Emily decided to deactivate the account the day before Rachel arrived. She reveals how she regretted not telling him anything and just disappearing without a trace.

As she revealed her confession both Ben and Rachel were speechless as they never could have imagined something like this to be the truth. Emily apologized to the two of them

"Im so sorry for what I did and I completely understand if neither of you want to see me again" she cried and handed the emails back to Ben before walking off. Ben was still stunned with Emily's revelation, he turned around and apologized to Rachel before walking up the steps and returning to his hotel room.

Rachel followed him to his room and tried to talk to him telling him this shouldn't change anything and they should still be together. Ben saw Rachel's pleading face and didn't want to upset her anymore, "Look Rachel im really confused right now and I just need some space and time to myself" Rachel nodded and walked out as she tried to contain her tears.

At night lying in bed, Ben stared up at the ceiling thinking about both of the girls, he couldn't wrap his around what Emily had done and the fact that Rachel wasn't the one he had been speaking to for 3 years. The next morning Ben packed his bags getting ready to leave Utah as he didn't see any reason for him to stick around any longer. As he filled up his suitcase he heard a knock at the door, he went to open it and to his surprise it was Emily. Ben left the door open and returned to packing his bags, Emily slowly strolled in and tried to talk to him but he ignored her and so she reached out and grabbed his arm begging him to hear her out. Ben stopped and turned his attention to her,

"Ben I know what I did was completely out of order but you need to know that I wouldn't have done any of it if there wasn't a connection between us and I know you feel it too".

Ben hatefully looked at her "Are you finished?" he asked with an aggressive sense of tone, Emily felt a tear approaching and so she left before she could feel any more vulnerable. Emily's words proved to Ben that she felt remorse but he was adamant to leave.

Ben checked out of the hotel and got in taxi, as they drove to the hotel he stared out the window at the town where he found who he thought could have been "The One".. Upon arriving at the airport Ben sat in the lounge waiting to board the plane, he glanced at the emails one last time before deciding to throw them in the trash, but he noticed something. He saw that whilst he was talking to Emily they actually had a lot in common and after looking at the sent time on the emails it showed they used to talk for over 5 hours every night. Ben then came to realise almost 4 years of his life had revolved around these emails and he promised himself if he ever found Rachel Hansen he'd do whatever it took to be with her. He then grabbed his luggage and called another taxi ordering it to head back to the hotel. After arriving he rushed inside asking the receptionist if a girl had come asking for him, and the receptionist told him someone had been looking for him

"Yeah this brunette girl said if you show up then tell you to meet her at the diner",

he smiled and asked her to watch his bags as he ran down the steps of the hotel and rushed to the diner. The way Ben ran to the diner bared a similar resemblance to when he rushed to the restaurant in the pouring rain to meet Erin just before she broke up with him. Ben went inside and looked around to find a beautiful girl sitting alone at a table playing with the salt and pepper shaker, he walked over to her and sat opposite to her "Rachel" he whispered, she looked up and smiled as she couldn't believe he missed his flight to meet her.

"Ben you're here, does that mean.." she stopped talking after seeing Ben's response.

"No it doesn't Rachel. Look I really like you okay but I fell in love with the girl from the emails, not the one I had only spoken to for a few weeks". Rachel sighed sadly as she knew where this discussion was leading and so she sat silently listening to Ben reveal his love for who she could only describe as "the other girl".

"Rachel if Emily had never showed up then this would have been a completely different conversation, and I'm thankful things went this way because otherwise I never would have realised that the girl I fell for wasn't Rachel Hansen. I'm sorry Rachel but I gotta find her, do you know where she could be"

he asked hoping Rachel would show some grace. Rachel was heartbroken but didn't want to interfere anymore in Ben's love story,

"She spends time alone at the docks when she's in a bad mood"

Ben smiled and kissed Rachel's forehead thankfully and left to go and find the love of his life. He raced to the docks and looked around but Emily was nowhere in sight, he walked around to look for her and just when all hope seemed lost he saw her standing alone behind a crowd of people just staring into the river. Ben walked over to her

"Hey Rachel Hansen, that is your name right?"

he laughed, Emily turned around and was shocked to see him there, she asked why he was here.

"Its you Emily, you're the one. I want to be with the girl from the emails, the one who I had a connection with".

Emily smiled and walked toward him "But what about Rachel?" she asked, "Rachel understands, you're the one I came to find". She smiled and kissed him before wrapping her arms around him embracing the moment.
