CHAPTER 4

Mother has been acting strangely this past week. I wonder why?

I began to get suspicious and decided to look through her office. Mother always said not to read her belongings without permission, but she probably won't agree to let me look anyway.

During my time here, I learned how to disable alarms, fix key cards, alternate/transfer data, and other basic things.

My skills were coming to a use now. I disabled the alarm and hacked into Mother's database.

What I saw was horrifying.

These letters....
People.... Don't like mother?
They're threatening her...

What did she do wrong?
I'm... sure she's safe... she must be!
Maybe I'm getting paranoid about this...

If anything were to happen to Mother...
What will I do then?
No, nothing will happen to her.

I'll protect her.

"Fae!"

It was Zai.
He held a piece of paper in his hands and showed it to me.

"Look what I drew for Mother!"

To be honest.... I was thoroughly impressed by his artistic skills. I knew he was able to draw well, but not to this extent.

"It looks nice...."

Zai gave me a wide smile and after a while of talking, he ran into Mother's room.

But inside Mother's room is.....

"Zai! Come over here! I need your help in the archives room!"

"Coming mother!"

When he came out of the room, I knew the look he had on his face.

He saw it.

The letters on her desk.

He knows about it now.

Later that night, Zai couldn't sleep.

"Hey Fae?"

I opened my eyes in response.

"Do you think Mother will be okay? I mean... she won't be in any danger or anything, right?"

There was a slight hesitation, but I responded calmly, "She'll be fine."

Zai sighed softly, relieved to hear something like that.

"You're right. Sorry for waking you... good night."

I watched as his breathing became steady and he fell into a deep sleep.

Closing my eyes, I thought for a moment.

"Don't worry Zai.... She'll be fine."

"We'll protect her."

"Together."
