"Help!" I cried, "Anybody please!" The gravel crunched beneath each footstep as I raced down the road to a destination that I feared I'd never reach on my own. My eyes hurt from the tears that had been burning behind them for the past 7 minutes. I felt lost, scared, and most of all I felt helpless. I feared that there was nothing I could do. I was afraid I wouldn't make it in time. Levi shifted in my arms and my heart began to ache.
No. I will make it in time. I will save Levi.
"Hello? Is someone out there?" A voice called out.
I perked up like a dog hearing it's name, "Here! Please help us!" I searched for the owner of the voice but with no avail. "Hello!?"
From the corner of my eye I spotted a figure lingering in the shadows of an abandoned market. I squinted my eyes, attempting to make out a face but couldn't see past the darkness. "Come out, show yourself!"
"Eren? Is that you?" The figure moved to stand in the light where I could see him.
I gaped, "Hannes? Hannes!" I rushed to meet him, still carrying Levi in my arms even thought I'd grown tired. "I need a hospital! Can you get us to one? Levi is-"
"Why are you here?" Hannes frowned, "You shouldn't have come back here."
"Back? What are you talking about?"
"You don't remember? Before the Titan's took over you lived about a block away from here," He scratched his head, "Though I suppose it's not very recognizable anymore."
I looked around, memories from the past fizzing up in bits a pieces like a broken mirror. I shook my head, "It doesn't matter why I'm here what matters is that Levi is taken to safety!"
Hannes nodded, "Alright, put some pressure on that wound. There's a car down the street from here that we can hot wire. The hospital isn't too far from here by car."
"Okay!" I did as he asked and followed him to the car. As we raced down the deserted streets I tried looking closer at the desolate place for some indication that I'd lived this way. How the Titans had managed to transform an entire neighborhood into a horror scene from a movie was unbeknownst to me. I looked down into Levi's face, his already fair skin had become even more pale and clammy. I pressed a kiss to his forehead and whispered against his skin, "You're gonna be okay."
When we reached the car Hannes got to work on it right away. I hoped in the back seat and adjusted Levi so that he was comfortable and I could continue putting pressure on the wound. Once the car started Hannes jumped in and slammed his foot on the gas, pulling us forward at dangerous pace. I tightened my grip on Levi to prevent him from moving.
"Be careful Hannes," I warned, "If we get in an accident we'll all be screwed."
"Yeah yeah," He muttered, "But since we now have time get talking. Why are you back in Shiganshina district? Where is Mikasa and Armin? Who is this Levi dude and how did he get hurt?"
"Slow down. Mika and Armin are fine, they're back home. Levi is my teacher, my love, and a retired member of the Recons, the rival gang of the Titans. He brought me here to avenge my mother and I temporarily joined the Recons so I could join them in an ambush on the Recons but we were ambushed instead. Levi got shot in the fray and I was able to escape to get him help.
"Woah woah woah wait a minute, you're dating your teacher? And a retired gang member at that? How old is this guy? Since when were you gay? I thought you liked Mikasa."
I seethed, "What the fuck? That part's not important! Did you not hear the rest?"
"I heard ya, I'd say I'm surprised you joined a gang to avenge your mother but I'm not." Hannes turned the car into the large hospital parking lot.
"Yeah but-"
"Look we're here," He interrupted, "Take your boyfriend and go. I'll wait outside, we can talk about how wildly inappropriate your relationship is later."
"Thanks Hannes, It was good to see you again. I really owe you one!" I scooped Levi back up and sprinted for the doors of the hospital.
"Help!" I screamed, bursting through the front doors, "Help him!"
In response to my cry a team of nurses rushed to my assistance right away, taking my love away from me.
