I woke up next to him on a wide bench in the same old subway with flickering yellow lights.

We didn't have sex last night (sorry to disappoint) I just fell asleep next to him, in the middle of the night, what i had done, developed into a nightmare. I was thrashing around, making little fearful noises

When the feeling of a steady heart beat wrapped around me tightly, I felt a light kiss on my forehead and woke up.

"What now" I asked groggily.

"Where are we?"

The corners of his false smile pulled, telling me he was really smiling.

"I was hoping that would be a surprise" he said in a playful but scratchy morning voice.

"Do you recognize this place" he whispered as I looked around, it seemed familiar but I couldn't tell how.

"One stop away from the ice skating rink" he said softly

"Your birthday, remember?"

I've tried to hard to forget all the good memories those past few years, it almost hurt to have them back knowing, that in the back of my mind things weren't really like that anymore, they never would be.

He stood up and kneeled in front of me.

"Sophia Caroline Jackson, would you do me the honor of accompanying me to the rink on a..." He paused, searching for the right words

"....a date?"
