•A few months later•

Things have changed since Lucas friar had left the city.

Especially for Maya.

Maya had gotten her first ever job.

Well, it wasn't an official job. But since she lived in New York, it was considered a job.

She went to the subway station with her guitar and sang some of the songs she wrote.

She never really expressed her love for music before.

She wasn't even aware she had musical talent.

The whole reason why she was doing this was because of what Lucas had told her.
••••
Maya packed up all her stuff from her locker and put her bag on her shoulders.

It was the last week of school before it was summertime.

Which meant exams, exams, and exams.

Somebody came up to her locker. "Hey Maya!"

Maya turned around. "Hi Riley."

"Four more days until sophomore year is over."

Maya let out a breath. "Thank goodness."

She looked at her locker, which was almost all cleaned out already.

She still needed it for four days, but oh well.

"Are you going to the subway now?" She asked.

Maya nodded in response.

She had to head to the subway station so she could earn some money.

"I would come with you but I have to study for my biology final."

Of course, Riley was studying her butt off. Not a bad thing though.

Riley left and Maya closed her locker, looking around the empty hallway.

She looked to her right to see thomas walking down the hallway.

Unfortunately, even though Lucas left, he was still here.

She walked past him, sending him a look before heading towards the main exit.

••••
Maya had to stop by her apartment to get her guitar and drop off her stuff.

Since she still didn't have enough hours to get a license, she couldn't drive herself.

She just had to walk to and from places.

She picked up her guitar from where it was leaning against a wall.

Right next to that was her desk, where she did her "homework"

She saw a note on it and picked it up.

It was the note Lucas had wrote months ago.

Shamelessly, she still had it and read through it sometimes.

She hasn't seen Lucas since he had moved to California.

She put the note back down and headed towards the subway.

It was always pretty packed in the afternoon, especially after school hours.

She put her guitar case down and opened it up.

Inside was her guitar, obviously, and all the money she made from last week.

She picked it up, getting a pick from her bag.

As soon as she looked up, she could see people sitting around, waiting for a subway.

She took a deep breath. Well, here goes nothing.

She started with her own original song, darling is a mess.

Yes she wrote it herself and yes it about someone... Maybe.

As she watched people crowd around her to watch, she saw someone stand out.

Okay that was weird...

She blinked and saw they were still there.

Just standing there and watching, like everyone else.

"Darling I'm a mess without...Lucas?!" She said, stopping in the middle of the song.

She looked at everyone looking at her and laughed nervously, "I'm sorry...just give me a second."

She put her guitar down and rushed into that direction.

She couldn't see Lucas there anymore.

It was probably just a daydream. He probably wasn't even there.

She looked around the subway to suddenly have someone grab her waist.

She turned around quickly, startled.

"Surprise." He said.

She blinked. "Lucas? Is that really you?"

"I think so."

Before she could say anything else, Lucas said. "Darling I'm a mess without Lucas? Is that really what you wrote?"

Maya felt her face turn red. "No. You know I actually liked you these past few months but then I remembered how much you annoy me."

Lucas pulled her into a side hug. "Well, I did come here all the way from California..it was hard convincing my mom."

He let go of me and said, "so I take it you read my note?"

Maya nodded. "Yeah. How'd you know? About the singing thing I mean?"

"Well, it made me think of when I first asked you out. When I saw you here singing."

Lucas continued. "You said no but whatever."

Maya laughed. "So you really like me?"

Referring to the note Lucas had wrote, he nodded. "Yeah. I realized it too late though."

"Well...I like you too." Maya said, relieved.

While Lucas was here, she had a impossible time figuring her feelings out. But she finally did.

"But you know I still don't like you right?" Maya said, jokingly.

Lucas nodded. "Of course. Like I said before, Frenemies."

"Wait so how did you know I was here?" Maya asked suddenly.

"I didn't. I was heading to your apartment when I ran into you here, luckily."

Maya remembered she left her guitar somewhere and looked around. "Probably should go get that."

She had left her case open and there was money inside. Nice.

Once she grabbed her guitar and packed it up, Lucas came up to her.

"You know you're really good, right?"

Maya looked down, trying not to show her blushing. "I do now."

They started walking out when lucas said, "you know, I'm here a few days since my school is already out. Wanna go out to eat?"

Maya nodded. "I would like that."

As they were walking out, Maya remembered she has finals to study for.

Oh well, this was way better.
