I stand quickly when she announces this and franticly look around for my duffel bag so I can clean myself up a little. Without warning, Marla tugs gently on my arm and starts heading for the bedroom door, “No time for any of that at the moment dear. The Sullivan’s are on a schedule this morning. After they leave you can freshen up.”
As she pulled me out into the hall I tried with my one free hand to comb my fingers through my, no doubt, mess of hair and pull at the short shorts and embarrassingly big worn t-shirt trying desperately to cover more of my legs. As we descended the stairs and made our way into the hall where the dining room and kitchen were located, Marla let go of my arm and continued to lead the way.
I wanted so bad to turn and run the other way, back to my room and away from all three brothers. It was bad enough I felt inferior in the presents of one brother, I thought to myself as I remembered how I felt in front of Cole and his appraising dark eyes at the restaurant. I felt out of place and average around him then and I could feel that same feeling taking over me again as we passed the dining room entrance and proceeded to walk towards the kitchen. I knew that feeling was going to be ten time worse standing in front of all three beautiful men and in my tattered old t-shirt, shorts and scattered hair no less.
When were arrived at our destination, Marla stopped and moved to the side a little before turning and ushering me to go in first. I did what was requested of me and entered the massive kitchen immediately being enveloped with the smell of warm butter and syrup along with the crackling of food being fried over by the stove where the cooks were busying themselves. I was instantly craving whatever it was they were cooking as I walked more into the kitchen.
At that moment, it seemed all three brothers had stopped their soft conversation and turned their gaze on my approaching form as I made my way over to where they were seated, which was in the morning room tucked in the center of a nook surrounded by tall windows. I hadn’t noticed the area last night when I was in here and it probably was because the shades were covering the windows and the darkness enveloped most of the morning room from my sight. Not to mention Kendall was a big distraction.
I stopped a few steps away from the round table as I brought my gaze back to the awaiting brothers before me. Marla came to a halt beside me and gestured towards me, “Ms. Amelia,” she said simply indicating my presence before walking back out of the kitchen leaving me standing awkwardly in front of them.
I wanted so bad to pull my fingers through my hair again and hide my horrifying attire, but I also knew it would be no use. So instead I tried not to let their stares get to me as I waited for one of them to speak. I didn’t have to wait long as Jayden was the first to speak, “Amelia, I’m glad you could join us, sit down we’re just about to eat. You like pancakes and eggs?” Jayden said his sweet and smooth voice sounding like a soft song to my ears. I gave a nod in response to his words and quietly pulled out the chair in front of me before sitting down.
Jayden was directly in front of me across the table while Cole and Kendall sat on either side of me. Each of them looked just as wonderful as they did last night except now it was slightly harder to tell them apart because now I couldn’t look towards their clothes for some hint as to which one was which. They all were in jeans and casual shirts, and if it wasn’t for their haircuts and Kendall’s small mark above his eyebrow I wouldn’t know who was who.
