The room was intentionally quiet.
Not the kind of silence that felt awkward.
The kind that invited honesty.
Warm afternoon sunlight filtered through half-drawn linen curtains, casting soft patterns across polished hardwood floors. Bookshelves lined one wall, filled with psychology journals, biographies, and worn novels whose pages had long ago yellowed with age. A small water fountain burbled gently from a nearby corner, adding a calming rhythm to the room.
Kim Namjoon lay stretched across the leather therapist's couch, his hands loosely folded over his stomach. His shoes rested neatly beside the chair, his black sweater slightly wrinkled from hours of sitting and shifting beneath difficult conversations.
This wasn't his first session.
Nor would it be his last.
At first, he had come because the company recommended it. Years of carrying the weight of BTS had left invisible scars that no amount of success could erase.
But somewhere along the way...
The sessions stopped becoming something he had to do.
They became something he needed.
Across from him, Dr. Woo sat quietly in an armchair, a leather notebook resting on her lap. Unlike reporters, she never interrupted his pauses. Unlike interviewers, she wasn't interested in perfect answers.
She waited.
Patiently.
Allowing silence to do its work.
"So..."
She folded her hands together.
"When you imagine your future now..."
Namjoon's eyes remained fixed on the ceiling.
"What do you see?"
He smiled faintly.
"It depends on the day."
"And today?"
He thought about it.
"A home."
The answer surprised even him.
"A quiet one."
"No cameras."
"No schedules."
"No airports."
His smile softened.
"Just...home."
Dr. Woo nodded thoughtfully.
"And who's there with you?"
The answer came effortlessly.
"Maya."
His lips curved almost unconsciously.
He could picture her perfectly.
Curled beneath one of his hoodies.
Reading while absentmindedly stealing bites from his plate.
Laughing whenever he forgot where he'd left his phone for the third time that day.
Every image arrived so naturally that he hardly noticed himself smiling.
Dr. Woo noticed.
"I've never seen you smile that easily."
Namjoon looked down at his hands.
"She does that."
Another quiet pause settled over the room.
Then Dr. Woo asked the question.
