hello! I can't promise a good upload schedule, but I do have every intent to continue working on this! there will be a lot of heavy mental health themes so do well to take care of yourself.

if there is anything that may be especially triggering, I will do my best to include it in trigger warnings and have a less detailed summary at the end.

__________

She was gone. Gaea has fallen. And it was an angel's hand. The hellfire he summoned scorched the earth, everything in his path burning.

He hadn't wanted to do this. Ever since the pit, there was a pull to use powers that were so much darker than what he could already do. Down there, Nyx and Tartarus himself wanted to see how much darkness he could take. And when he couldn't take it, they brought him back to try again.

But the thing with this new darkness inside him, is that it scared him. More than he would ever or could ever admit.

So, he pushed it down. It probably would have been useful, during the transport of the Athena Parthenos, but what if it went wrong? What if using what they forced upon him sent him back there? What if he killed the others, Reyna and coach Hedge? Or the seven? Any of the demigods on their side?

He wasn't much of a demigod now anyways.

When he saw and felt so many half-bloods falling at the Enemies hand, he knew what he had to do.

So, he harnessed that power. The so-called "gift" burned Gaea and her army till they were nothing more than ash. Gaea took an extra push though.

He could feel her life force, so he pulled.

The gods had been angry with him for this. His father especially. Some understood, some were furious he didn't use it sooner, stop the fight before it began. Stop it before so many of their children died.

They didn't say children though. That's not what Demigods are to them. No, they were soldiers, and if they are "lucky," they may even get to become a champion.

Some gods were angry because of how much power he had gained. They didn't like that someone with mortal blood could so easily force a primordial goddess into a slumber.

But that's the thing. He didn't have mortal blood anymore. In those pits, they forced so much power on him, more than any mortal, demigod, or God even, should be able to take. So, the remaining gods were angry because now, he was one of them, and he could topple them so easily if he wanted to. He could force them to serve him, as he once served them.

So that's it. They were afraid of him. Gods feared Nico. He was an outcast amongst gods now too.

It wasn't much better with the demigods. Though now they had even more reason to avoid him. But he would not allow them to rebuild on their own. Too much had been lost, too many.

So, he found them, gathered the bodies and performed the burial rights. He repaired the earth. Mended the cabins and buildings that were destroyed in the battle.

And then he said goodbye.

He could not stay in a place that only associated him with fear. They did make him swear on the Styx that he would visit. And he planned to. Hazel promised that if she goes more than a month without hearing from him, she will hunt him down and drag him back to camp. Reyna promised the same, albeit a bit more violently.

By the time he was done helping camp, the seven had separated slightly. They all still kept in touch, but they needed space. They did not want to be reminded of the pain they endured together.

Percy and Annabeth went off to college in new Rome, Jason and Piper went to finish high school to make going to college easier, Leo was still at camp, locking himself away in the workshop.

Frank and Hazel had each other. Reyna had confided in Nico about potentially stepping down and joining the hunters, endorsing Hazel so she would be likely to take her place.

Allowing the shadows he once found comfort in to guide him, he was pulled to a city that was shrouded in death, in pain. A place he would soon find out was Gotham.

He found himself on a rooftop. Unaware of the glimmer of hope and happiness this city had the potential to bring him.

________

I hope you enjoyed! this was just the prologue, a way to set the tone of what is to come. Right now, I want a lot of the first few chapters to focus on healing and bonding, with some (a lot) of angst throughout. I personally love a good kidnapping scene, so that will come eventually.
