Paris, 7:00 AM
It's 2019, and the city of Paris is at its usual best. Tourists are arriving from all around the world, people are moving in, visiting, and going about their daily lives.
In a quiet neighborhood, near a small apartment building, sits a little park where several children are playing. Among them are four boys. Two are running away while the other two chase after them.
They're playing police and robbers.
The two boys doing the chasing are both wearing matching police costumes :
One of them is Adrien Moreau, a seven-year-old boy with light brown hair and greyish-blue eyes. Holding a fake pistol in his hand, he runs after the other kids while laughing alongside his partner, Luca Bellandi.
Luca is also seven years old. Smaller than Adrien, he has black hair and striking golden eyes.
After running around the park for a few minutes, they finally manage to catch the two boys.
"Gotcha!" Adrien says with a grin, pointing his toy gun at them.
Luca immediately pulls out a pair of fake handcuffs and snaps them onto the boys' wrists.
"Now you won't be able to escape us, the good guys!" he declares proudly.
The two boys laugh as they allow themselves to be arrested.
"Boys! Please don't do anything too reckless!"
The voice belongs to a woman with brown hair and blue eyes: Amandine, Adrien's mother.
"Mommy!"
Adrien's face lights up as he runs over and hugs her.
"I arrested the bad guys! Did you see that?" he asks excitedly.
"Yes, I saw it," she replies, returning the hug. "You did a great job, sweetheart."
As she looks up, she notices the two boys still handcuffed while Luca stands guard beside them.
"Can you remove their handcuffs now, sweetheart?" she asks.
Adrien blinks.
"Uh... we can remove those? I thought they never removed them in the movies."
His mother's eyes widen.
"What? Don't you have a key?"
She glances toward the two boys, who suddenly seem much less amused.
"Thank goodness I brought them with me."
Reaching into her bag, she pulls out a pair of small plastic keys and hands them to Adrien.
"Make sure to free your friends."
Adrien nods and runs back to Luca.
"Luca! Here's one key. Help me free them!"
Luca looks at him in confusion.
"Since when do we free the bad guys?"
Adrien laughs.
"The game's over, silly! Give me a hand."
Luca shrugs and helps him unlock the handcuffs.
The moment they're free, the two boys run off to continue playing.
"Phew," Adrien says. "That was hard work, right, partner?"
He raises his hand.
"Right!"
Luca grins and slaps his hand against Adrien's.
Afterward, the two boys sit down on a bench next to Adrien's mother.
"Luca! Let's make one of those pacts like they do in the movies!"
"Sure. What kind of pact?" Luca asks.
Adrien smiles brightly.
"From now on, we'll both work hard to become police officers, together!"
For a brief moment, Luca's eyes widen.
Then he smiles just as brightly.
"Always."
The two boys look up at the sky above Paris.
In that moment, they are completely certain that one day, they'll become exactly what they've always dreamed of being... together.
