— THE EFFECTS OF AI —

in short, refrain from using artificial intelligence— this includes chatgpt, c.ai, and even search engines that use ai overviews. one thing i will always hate is ai art. it commodifies creativity, steals existing ideas and undermines the efforts of actual artists. why are we using artificial intelligence to even create artwork when there are so many talented people in the world? it is unsettling to think that algorithms are replacing human creativity, all while draining resources at an unprecedented rate.

the amount of energy used by AI data centers is staggering and it increases carbon emissions. these facilities are not just energy-hungry; they are also water-intensive, exacerbating issues of water depletion in regions that are already struggling. greenhouse gases are created as a result of ai data centers consuming energy and if you don't already know, greenhouse gases contribute to global warming. they raise the earth's temperature and leads to biodiversity loss and increasing extreme weather events— which brings me to my next point.

polar bears. they're natural habitat is rapidly melting due to warmer weather, the ice that they walk on cracking and breaking into smaller pieces to the point that they can't even get onto them anymore. if anything, ai is contributing heavily to the climate crisis and is rapidly warming the planet in addition to the already existing issue. it's making it worse. if you've seen videos, you would know that polar bears are being found extremely emaciated, with their bones protruding beneath their skin. they are losing the vital fat reserves that keep them warm in frigid temperatures.

they can't get enough food, their land is being destroyed, melting away as all they can do is swim and hang onto a small hope of survival. worse yet, they're existence is under threat, forcing them to undergo rapid evolution to adapt to their inhospitable environment. why would they even have to change how they are in the first place if the globe was fine and healthy? it's abhorrent that they are victims of our technological advancement. this isn't just about polar bears but about the entire planet's health. and by ignoring the implications of artificial intelligence, we're robbing future generations of a liveable world.
