Chapter 36

"Pass the milk, homie!"

I duck with my hands over my head as Jared chucks our carton of milk across the room to Matt. Luckily, he catches it. Eleanor would've killed the two if he had spilled milk in our dorm.

"Do you guys ever hang out in your own dorms?" I ask, sitting cross-legged on my bed.

"What do you say, Matt? Want to go back to our dorms with a bunch of smelly, gross men who don't know how to use the washing machine?" Jared jokes.

Matt places his hands on his hips. "Hm, I don't know, Jared. I think I'll stay in the dorm with the Febreeze air-fresheners and pretty girls walking around in the hallway."

"Okay, okay. I get it," I mumble. "I'm going to FaceTime Peter, so...shut up now."

The two boys swipe their fingers along their lips to pretend sealing them shut.

I returned back to college last night. Expecting an empty dorm, I was a bit shocked to see Matt and Jared passed out on the floor. They never completely explained why they were there, but apparently our dorm was closer than either of theirs. And here they are, still in my dorm by morning.

"Hey, Gracie. I'm in the car with Miles," Peter says and moves his phone to show Miles. "Say hi."

"Hi, Pete and Miles. I'm in my dorm with Jared and Matt." I turn my phone to show to two boys on the floor before placing the camera back on me. "They were here at the dorm to give me a scare last night."

Peter laughs. "Really? Nice one, guys."

"Thanks," they chime at the same time.

"Anyway," I pause, "anything new?"

"Actually, I talked to Hal last night," Peter informs. "I wanted to avoid him, but my idiotic brother let him inside the house."

Miles takes the phone from Peter. "Hey, I'm just trying to keep the peace. Do not blame me for this."

"You did set them up," I say slowly.

He huffs and hands the phone back to a laughing Peter. We don't really blame Miles at all. It's our parents' fault, and they're the ones who kept it from us.

"Basically, Hal asked me for my blessing," Peter sighs. "Like, seriously? I'm not giving you permission to marry my girlfriend's mom!"

I raise my eyebrows in interest. "They're already thinking about marriage? They've been dating for only like three months or something!"

"Three and a half," Miles corrects.

Peter rolls his eyes. "Shut it, matchmaker."

"What did he say after you said no?" I ask.

"Well," he hesitates, "I didn't really say no."

I bite my tongue, not wanting to explode at Peter for no reason. "What exactly did you say then?"

He thinks about it for a second before moving the phone to a shot of Miles. His brother bangs the steering wheel and moves his mouth quickly with profanities. Miles picks up a box of tissues in the car and chucks it into the windshield.

"Clear representation of what went down," Peter says with blush on his cheeks. "I don't know if Hal took it as a yes or a no, but he knew to get out of the house."

"He ran," Miles pauses, "very fast."

I laugh, shaking my head slowly. "I can't believe you."

"In other news, I ran into Aaron Parthroff at Target this morning."
