Chapter 8: Advised (Part 2)

Kia and I decided to put on a movie. We had probably hundreds to choose from; ranging from scifi to comedy. They did had the movie Abandoned: 3192. That peaked my interest, partially because it was Emmaline's favorite to watch. Her facination with the book and movie began to rub off on me after two years of us being together.

"Hey, Kia," I said, turning the case over to read the back. "Have you ever read that book, the one called Abandoned?" I asked her.

"Uh, yeah, we were in English together. It was a reading assignment, remember?" She paused. "It was a really good book. Why bring it up all of a sudden?"

I smiled, holding up the DVD box. She stared at it in disbelief.

"They had a movie all this time, and we didn't watch it in class?" She asked, confused. It was obvious that she hadn't seen the film, to understand why it hadn't been shown.

"It was part romance. Unassigned love, and they can't show it at school because it's against the law to be encouraging us to go and have sex whenever it seemed like it was the end of the world. I don't know why they would allow us to read it if it advertised that, but I guess it's a lesson. Plus, it's a classic." I added.

She shrugged. "Yeah, I get it now. I never knew that they'd made a movie, though. Let's watch it." She decided.

I popped the disc into the player, waiting for the opening description to appear on the screen. From the moment the movie started, I could tell that Kia was enjoying it.

The movie was made about twenty five years after the book was published, which was around the year 2035. When the movie came out in 2060, it was still legal to love whomever you so choosed. Although I'm not quite sure why they still allowed the book and film to circulate, I'm glad that it wasn't banned. The story was really well constructed.

We only made it about fifteen minutes in to the movie before we hears a knock at the door. Kia started to get up, but I assured her that I'd get it. I could tell that it made her happy that she could continue her movie. I rushed to answer the door.

What I saw outside almost gave me a heart attack.

There, standing in the doorway, was my dad. He looked well, like he hadn't quite come to terms with me leaving just yet. I stood there for a few minutes with questions running rampant in my mind.

"Dad!" I finally greeted him. "Come in, please! I can't believe that it's you!" I cried, hugging him with happy tears streaming down my cheeks. How did you find me, and what are you doing here?" I asked in a rush. I couldn't process this change in my day fast enough.

When I came out of the hug, dad was smiling. He stepped aside, and my wild thoughts all stopped.

Behind my dad stood Emmaline, my beautiful, sweet Emmaline. Those blonde curls shimmered in the morning sun, and her face glowed, her features as radiant as the personality she harbored within her. She stood there and smiled at me, waiting.

"Oh, Emmy!" I exclaimed, picking her up and twirling her around. I was kissing her all over, her cheeks, her neck, her lips. I was so happy that she was here. I love her.

"Haden," she breathed, melting into my arms. "It's so good to see you."

"It's even better to see you." I replied. I continued to hold her in my arms, focusing on her. Nothing could come between us, not now. I wasn't going to let her go again.

Someone cleared their throat. I looked up from Emmaline's shoulder and saw that it was her assigned partner, Christopher. Mentally sighing, I spoke up. "Kia is inside if you want to go talk with her. Dad, you too. I want to talk to Em." I told them, coming out of our hug and practically shooing them inside. Christopher gave me one last look, trying to intimidate me, but I ignored him.
