Dear Vee,
Merry Christmas! I'm so sorry about your father. He really does love you. Which is exactly why he's working double shifts. A little birdie told me that you were planning to spend Christmas at Dueling Peaks. And I should probably tell you, Robbie just arrived home from Hateno Tech Lab! And just the other day, Josha informed me how lonely she had been lately. What I'm suggesting is this: why not come down to Lookout Landing for Christmas? Everything looks so beautiful. There's snow everywhere! And the kids keep begging me to tell them a story, and I keep telling them I can't do it as well as you. Not to mention,
Robbie and I are missing our favorite granddaughter.
Love,
Grandma Jerrin
I smiled as I put the letter down, and drummed my fingers on my desk.
I really did want to go down to Lookout Landing!
There was just one problem: I had already told Perrik and Nin and Shibo that I was going to spend Christmas at Dueling Peaks Stable with them, because my parents, Ivee and Grantè, were much too busy.
Not to mention, the walk from the Stable to Lookout Landing was much too long! I might not have even reached it before Christmas Eve!
And I hadn't seen Grandma and Grandpa in so long! I missed them. And Josha as well.
Maybe I shouldn't. But I really want too! I should just-
"Vee?" A soft voice interrupted my thoughts. It was Nin and his twin brother, Shibo.
"Can you help us with our snowhylian?
I immediately brightened.
"Sure!" I said.
"Just give me a minute to get my snow stuff on."
~.~
A moment later, I found myself outside, helping the twins stack heft onto our snowhylian.
"Just hold still-" Nin instructed his brother.
"No!" Shibo shrieked. Nin was aiming a snowball right at his poor brother's nose.
Shibo was sitting on my shoulders, attempting to get the carrot nose on our sculpture, while trying to shake his brother's aim.
I was giggling so hard that Shibo nearly fell off several times. And he eventually did. But not from a snowball.
Nin was aiming, he stretched his arm back, and then fell on his face in the snow.
Whack!
Someone had hit him hard enough to knock him over. It was then that Shibo fell, quivering with laughter.
He wasn't the only one laughing.
"Gotcha!" Perrik stood behind Nin, proudly tossing a snowball in his left hand. It was easy to spot his shock of black hair in a ponytail that resembled a bundle of sticks.
With Shibo off my back, I could finally stand up straight. I smiled cheerfully and greeted Perrik.
He grinned sheepishly.
"I had to." He said. "And apparently my aim isn't rusty." Perrik was a former Yiga. He was brave, sturdy, and extremely protective.
I laughed.
"Care to join us?" I asked.
Perrik nodded.
"Sure."
