Chapter 28

My eyes fly open and I see Ace, Blaire, and Rhett standing together facing away from me.

I say "what's going on?" I suddenly see the four people standing in front of them.

A man says "we're here to collect."

I say "you're not collecting anyone." I feel like I'd seen the man once or twice, but I don't know.

Rhett says "you're not getting her, not without a fight."

Blaire says "she doesn't come for free."

Ace says "not until we're all laying on the ground dead."

I say "Ace no!"

The man smiles and says "great, then we're on the same page." Water shoots from his hands and hits Ace, throwing him backwards.

I say "leave him alone! Leave them alone!"

A woman steps forward and says "so this is the mastermind that took the country by storm? Doesn't look like much."

I say "oh it's on lady!" I look over at Ace, and the water was hitting him really hard, really fast.

The man says "you know, I never thought I'd get to actually meet you, Nova. I picked up my Hydrokinesis during my time as a spy."

My eyes widen and I say "D-Dashiell?"

He nods and says "yes. But, it doesn't matter."

I say "don't do this. You can't do this."

He says "why not?!"

I say "would you really do this to your own family?"

He says "I don't have any siblings."

I say "wrong. You've got two. We've got a little sister. Her name's Simone."

He says "we?!"

I say "yeah. I'm your sister. You really wanna do this?"

He stops shooting the water at Ace and faces me. He says "yes, I do." The water shoots from his fingertips and hits me in the face. Very hard.

I fall backwards, holding my face.

Rhett runs to my side and says "you okay?"

Dashiell grabs Ace by the shoulder and says "gotcha." He pins his arms behind his back.

Ace is unable to move and his nose is bleeding.

A woman jumps behind Blaire and pins her arms too.

Blaire struggles, but the woman is stronger.

Two people remain, one man and one woman.

I say "take me, leave them."

The man says "we can't do that. We've gotta take all of you."

I jump up and suddenly erupt into flames.

The man approaches me and pins my arms behind my back.

Pyrokinetic. Dammit.

Rhett says "if you're taking her you're taking me too."

The second woman says "that's the plan." She grabs his arms and pins them behind her back.

Blaire continues to struggle, but to no avail.

Dashiell looks down at Ace and says "I think this one's dead."
