Beep, Beep, Beep.
That was all I could here as my brain woke up. That and people talking.
"This could have been bad, really bad Disa. But the main thing is you're okay and so is she. I know you missed the race but I'm sure Tony will understand. It wasn't your fault."
"No shit it wasn't my fault Jelani, but you know how the tabloids spin things. I refuse to deal with that right now."
Shit. I really hit someone. Besides that all I could remember was pain. Bone rattling, brain shaking pain, that made me feel like I wanted to die, like if someone had offered to end me, I would have said yes and thanked them for it.
Opening my eyes I scanned the dimly lit room. There were three men in the corner and a monitor next to me. It didn't look like a standard hospital room, I was pretty sure I was laying on silk sheets.
"She's awake." One of the guys in the corner walked towards me. All three of them looked a lot alike, bronzed, brown skin and fades except for the one that noticed I was awake. He had curly hair and glasses. I had no clue which one I hit.
"Hi Kiara, I'm Jelani. How are you feeling?" He asked, concern clearly lining his face.
Jelani asked that question like a doctor would have, and out of the three of them he looked the youngest with his glass and light hazel eyes. "Try rating your pain for me from one to ten."
Pain. I actually wasn't feeling any, it was like despite knowing everything had actually happened, nothing did. I felt nothing except for residual exhaustion and soreness, as if I was hit by a bus, but days ago. Even now as I answered Jelani, my eyes felt like they were being weighed down by anchors, ready to sink at any moment.
I must have been on really strong meds.
"At, like a 2." I replied hoarsely. "Which is weird because it was like a 15 before? Um...What happened, who did I hit? "
He passed me a glass of water and told me to drink it all before explaining why I wasn't in a world full of hurt right now.
"Adisa," he said, gesturing to one of the men that looked similar to him but older, sitting in a chair with folded arms by the foot of the bed, "was the one you hit, he was also the one who brought you back here along with his BG, Denny."
"BG," I asked, confused. "Also, where is here, exactly? Are we at a private clinic?"
Jelani shared a look with the guys before answering, "A BG is what we use when we're talking about our bodyguards. And you're at Adisa's place... a doctor came round and gave you some medication to help with your pain, fortunately he could get your pain under enough control that he didn't need to give you a blood transfusion. He hung some fluids too and will be back to check on you in a bit."
My mind was spinning. He brought me to his house after the accident instead of a hospital? I glanced at Adisa and he just stared back at me, face void of any emotion that would give me any insight to what he was currently thinking or feeling.
Who the hell were these people?
"Why didn't you just take me to the hospital?" I questioned.
Jelani started to answer, but Adisa cut him off with a wave of his hand standing from the arm chair. He came closer towards me then bent down a little, eyes locked with mine.
"I don't know what kind of game you're playing women, and frankly I don't give a damn. You hit the wrong side of the car otherwise you would have killed me and Denny - who was the one that chose to bring you back here by the way - I personally would have just left you there to see how far your charade got you."
Jelani tried pulling him back a bit, "Disa, bro come on. I already told you she didn't plan this."
Adisa turned around to face his brother, anger contorting his features, "And I already told you. I don't believe that, you don't know how they can get Jay. From throwing shoes to breaking into my car and the paddock, the hotels. It never ends, only escalates." Adisa swung back around towards me. "You all need to stop and get on with your lives. Why can't you just see I'm trying to live mine?"
He turned and left then. The other man, who looked like his carbon copy, had been quietly observing in the corner, exited with him.
Was he for real?
I already felt like a total asshole for the accident, it's not like I wanted it to happen. But clearly he didn't see it that way. I didn't ask to be brought back here, he spoke as if he'd done me a favour by bringing me here instead of a hospital but from what I understood, the only one he was protecting was himself. Accusing me of doing this intentionally was messed up, the dude knew nothing about me.
Which was fine. But he should keep his baseless accusations to himself. Or I would find a way to do it for him.
Authors note:
Hey guys,
Know its been a while but uni's been a bit a ride. Can't believe it's all over in a few months 🥹. But for some good news Lando WON the WDC 😍. Don't ask me when I got into formula 1 cause I wouldn't be able to tell you but I'm so happy he did him to the end.
Hope you like the chap.
With all my love,
Dara X
