Chapter 15 • Shell of a Man

Sorry for the lack of posts again guys, I've had a lot of things going on. I need to like write a schedule because I think that'll help me!

Also thank you guys so much for the appreciation on all of my books, you're all amazing and I love you. I'll have to think of something special for you guys.

Maybe I'll reach flow state and write a bunch of chapters today.

First Person POV
(Anakin)

Her sobs only intensified, her pain thrumming strongly in the force. Each whimper was full of heartbreak and betrayal.

I remember that feeling all too well.

Suddenly, she lifts her head from my shoulder and pulls herself off of me.

"What?" I ask softly, reaching for her.

She gets up and steps back, "I hate you." (Y/n) cries out shakily, turning away from me.

"I know. But let me be here for you." My voice is hoarse with emotion, past memories flooding back.

I did the exact same thing when I had to kill (Y/n)'s mother.

Of course I didn't tell anybody what Mundi had made me do, but everybody knew I'd changed.

I wouldn't laugh anymore.

I wouldn't smile.

I wouldn't go out.

I wouldn't even eat because I was so torn up over what I had to do. She was a good mentor, an amazing Jedi, and a trusted companion.

And I had to slaughter her like an animal.

"You're a liar, Anakin Skywalker."

"What did I say about that name?" I growl.

"On the recording," She pauses to take a sharp breath, "she pleaded for you not to kill her. And you looked empty. You were empty."

I sigh, running a hand through my hair.

"She was begging me not to turn to the dark side, which is what I had already done before killing her. I thought it would make it easier."

"You're a pussy, Anakin. You're bullshit."

Each time she says my name, she says it spitefully—she knows that name really gets under my skin, and she's trying to act tough.

"I did what I had to do. You know nothing of what that was like." My voice grows colder, my kindness from before starting to wear down.

I have never been patient. Only reckless and angry. But I have some understanding for what she's going through, so I try not to completely snap.
