Maze
It started as a joke — "Hyunjin always gets lost."
They'd laugh about it during tours: how he once ended up in the wrong van after a music show, or how he'd walk confidently in the wrong direction until someone yelled his name.
But that night in Singapore, it stopped being funny.
The stadium was chaos.
Sound techs shouting into radios, cables coiled like snakes across the floor, props being wheeled past in a blur. The air smelled of smoke machines and adrenaline.
"Ten minutes till stage!" someone yelled.
Stray Kids huddled in the prep area — Chan giving last notes, Felix bouncing lightly on his heels, Han humming under his breath.
Hyunjin was quiet, focused, eyes shining beneath his blonde hair.
"You good?" Chan asked, patting his shoulder.
Hyunjin nodded. "Yeah. Just hyped."
The lights dimmed, signaling the start of the intro sequence. The crowd's roar rolled through the walls like thunder.
Eight shadows lined up by the lift that would take them to the main stage.
As the platform began to rise, Hyunjin glanced back one last time — a flicker of movement behind the curtains caught his eye.
A stagehand gesturing frantically, mouthing something he couldn't hear.
Cable problem? he thought.
He hesitated for a split second, then stepped away from the lift.
"Hyunjin—?" Chan started, but the platform was already moving.
The others disappeared upward into the blinding lights.
And Hyunjin was suddenly, completely, alone.
He jogged toward the side area, where the staff member had been. But when he got there, the man was gone.
The hallway stretched in two directions — both narrow, both lined with flight cases and coiled wires. The sound of the concert above vibrated faintly through the concrete walls, distant and muffled.
"Hello?" Hyunjin called. His voice echoed. No answer.
He checked his earpiece — dead. No connection.
Great, he thought, I missed the lift, and now I'm in the world's creepiest backstage maze.
He started walking, following the faint hum of machinery, trying to find another path to the stage.
Every corridor looked the same: black curtains, exit signs, doors marked with tape and numbers that meant nothing.
He turned left. Then right. Then another right.
And then... he realized he was going in circles.
Above him, the music started — Back Door.
The bass thudded through the ceiling, rhythmic and alive. He could almost see it: the others hitting formation, the crowd screaming, the lights exploding in sync.
They didn't even know he was missing yet.
He jogged faster, breathing hard now. Sweat trickled down the side of his face, more from panic than heat.
He passed a cluster of unmarked doors. One was slightly open.
He pushed it.
Inside was a maze of scaffolding — metal ladders, catwalks, and crates stacked high. The room was lit only by emergency lights, glowing red and ominous.
"Okay, horror movie vibes, love that," he muttered.
Something clanged in the distance — maybe a loose pipe, maybe just his imagination.
He stepped inside.
His sneakers echoed against the concrete. The red light made the shadows move, twisting into shapes that seemed to breathe.
