"Time for school!" Tiny hands shake my shoulders waking me from my very peaceful sleep.

I groan. I am so not a morning person. But knowing that it is my sister who is trying to wake me up I can't snap at her, 'cause she'll cry and I'll feel like a jerk.

"Sofi," I said my voice thick with sleep. "I'll be down in 15 minutes."

"Okay!" She says very loudly and I can hear her tiny feet running away and the sound my door slamming shut.

I yawn rubbing my eyes and sit up. Ugh, I really don't want to go to school today. Especially remembering how I have to give Lauren her stupid wallet. I frown at the stupid thing on my desk.

I have a feeling today is going to suck

Getting out of bed I change into my usual dark blue skinny jeans, my plain gray crew neck, and my lucky banana socks. Maybe with these today won't be as bad as I think it's going to be.

Checking myself out in the bathroom mirror I run my fingers through my dark brown hair and put in my black bow. I brush my teeth and wash my face.

I give myself one more look over I head downstairs, but not before I grab the wallet off my desk.

When I get downstairs I walk into the kitchen, my mom has her back to me as she prepares breakfast for us already dressed in her nurse uniform.

"Good morning family," I greet sitting down at the table next to Sofi.

"Good morning Mija," my mom says approaching me with a plate of waffles and bacon. She gives me a kiss on the head and takes a seat next to me in front of her plate with the same thing.

"What time do you work today?"

She sighs, "From 8:30 until 10 at night."

"But what about Sof?" I ask confused I have work until 6 and Sofi gets out of school at 2:45 while I'm still in school.

"My friend Milika from work has the day off and said she can pick Sofi up from school, watch her until you get off of work, then drop her off around 7 when you get home."

"I love Milika! She's so nice and makes good food!" Sofi pipes in shoving a piece of bacon in her mouth.

I don't think I've met her... But if she's my mom's friend and Sofi likes her then I'm okay with it. I nod in approval and begin eating before its time to leave.

The ride to school is quiet except for Sofi singing in the backseat to whatever is playing on the radio.

"How's school been?" My mom asks me.

"It's been okay. I have straight A's so everything is good."

"I'm so proud of you, Mija," I look over to her and smile when I see the proud look on her face. "You're dad would be proud of you too."

The happy smile on my face turns into a sad one when I think about him. My dad died in a car accident a year after Sofi was born, my mom took it really hard but she didn't turn to drinking or drugs she would just keep to herself and wouldnt talk much other than to say dinner was ready or I love you, that was pretty much it. It took awhile but she bounced back to normal when Sofi started being able to walk and talk.

My mom spoke, "Anyway, have you made any new friends?"

I sigh. She knows I don't like talking about 'friends' but she still brings it up. "No I haven't."

"Mija, you've got to put yourself out there. I know it's hard been hard since Shawn moved away those years ago but you need to make new friends and new memories."
