I'm clutching his leather jacket tightly, his pierced eyebrow raising before moving me to the side as his silver chain glints in the moonlight around his thick neck.

"Where." He growls and I yank him back to me, his eyes locking on my hands gripping at him tightly. "No! He had a knife!" I cry out.

I'm clutching him like my life depends on it, the adrenaline wearing down and I start to shake badly. He pulls me into him instantly, his warmth soaking through me and I try to take a breath.

"Hey, breathe." He says softly, his voice nothing like I've heard it before and I start to relax into him.

"Serena!" Hayden calls, walking over from the bonfire and I eye him warily. Is he the same height as the man?

"What happened? I found Jade but she said she didn't know where you were. I heard you screaming." His face is pinched with concern, looking almost frantic like he truly did hear me and come running.

"Someone chased her through the woods with a mask and a fucking knife." Zane growls, gripping me tighter and I lock eyes with Hayden.

"Who? What the fuck!" He snarls, going for the woods immediately and I gasp, "No!" I pull away from Zane, reaching for Hayden and he turns instantly, looking at me with a mix of confusion and something else I can't quite read.

"What? Scared I'll get hurt?" I roll my eyes at his arrogance, my voice shaking despite myself. "I don't care, whatever. Just, don't leave me."

"Hey, shh it's okay. We won't let anything happen to you." He reaches his hand out and I watch him closely, seeing nothing but concern on his face and choosing to take his hand.

He tugs me gently, pulling me into his arms and I rest my head agains him slowly. His hands grip me tightly, his arms coiled possessive. Almost reverent in the way he cradles my head."

Zane's eyes meet mine, looking at us together and smirking softly. "Need us to take you home tonight?"

I shake my head, my nerves still shot to hell. "No I don't think so.. I came with Jade so I just want to be sure she's okay."

"She is, when I came to find her she said she was heading out with some guy from class." Hayden says and my eyebrows pinch together.

Pulling away from him, I grab my phone and dial for Jade. She picks up on the third ring, the sound of a car humming in the background and wind whipping through windows coming through with her voice.

"Hey! You ok? Hayden said he'd be ok taking you home, sorry to leave like that but I couldn't find you!" I sigh softly, relived that she really is okay as I close my eyes gently and rub my head.

"Okay, yeah I'm good. I was making sure you were alright. I'll see you Monday." I murmur and she answers with a "See ya Monday! Have fun." Her voice dips lower, suggestively and I hang up. Raising my head to face them both as they stand shoulder to shoulder.

"Um. So she did leave, so I'm just gonna maybe.." I trail off, not sure if I want to take their offer for a ride or just get an uber. But the bonfire is over an hour from my house. The cost would be ridiculous.

"Maybe.. let us take you home?" Hayden says, chuckling and placing his hand on the small of my back as he guides me through the party and to the cars.

"I'd hate for that man to come back when we aren't around, from now on one of us can always be with you. Make sure you're safe." He whispers in my ear, his breath hitting my skin and I shudder.

Walking obediently beside him while Zane follows behind closely. "I don't think that's necessary." I answer Hayden stubbornly, and Zane scoffs from behind us.

"I'd say after getting chased in the woods by a masked man in a knife, having someone to protect you sounds very necessary."

Getting to their car, Hayden opens the passenger door and ushers me in with one hand. I get in the backseat.

He laughs loudly, holding the door open for Zane instead and he rolls his eyes before plopping into the seat.

The door closes, instantly cutting off all sound from the outside world and I start to second guess my decision. Their smells intertwining into a hypnotizing siren call to my senses.

"Don't look so scared, baby." Hayden murmurs as he gets in and I flush all over before crossing my arms. "Don't call me that." Their chuckles fill the car, the engine roaring to a start and I stare through the window.

"Whatever you say, baby." Hayden pulls off, the tires screeching and I clutch the leather under me tightly. My eyes widening and meeting his in the mirror as he grins.

"But before we take you home, I'm hungry. Are you hungry?" He turns to Zane, who turns his head to stare at me in the back.

"Starving."
