"B-b-b-b-but..."

SLAP!!

"O-ow..."

That was more than enough to get Abbie to return to his senses, as evident by him managing to stand up, but it was clear that he was still incredibly shaken up.

Engel realised that, before finding a way to escape, he needed to get a grasp on the situation. Looking past the crowded students, in front, he saw a couple of teachers guarding some of the exits. He only recognised a few of them, but it was too dark to make out the rest properly. It was almost obvious that they were out for blood, but they were just... standing there. As if something had told them to not kill any further, but there was no chance that they would up and let them leave.

That would probably lead to them experiencing the same fate as the kid on their table.

"The teachers..." Claire spoke up next to Bubble, also seemingly becoming privier to the situation. "N-no... they... they can't. Why them? Why us? Why are they attacking US?!"

"Does it fucking matter, Claire?!" Bubble angrily replied in panic. "They're here, and they want to kill us. They want to kill us, Claire. They... fuck, what are we going to do? I can't die here—WE can't die here."

"We won't die here, Bubble."

"HOW DO YOU KNOW?!"

"No, no there has to be more to it—there's no way they'll just do this randomly," Engel theorised—dozens upon dozens of theories swirled within his head, but he cast them out. This was no time to cast bait into the ocean—he needed to get him and his friends out of there, and quick. "But that doesn't matter right now. Come on, we have to go."

"B-but... to w-where?" Abbie pointed out, tears streaming down his face. "T-they h-h-have the exit on t-total lockdown... t-they'll kill us l-like what happened to that k-kid. W-w-what are we supposed to do, E-Engel...?!"

The feathered demi-human wracked his brain. He had to think of something before the teachers suddenly decided to go against their reluctance to kill any further and massacre the whole room. His eyes instinctively darted around the area, trying to trigger an idea somehow...

...until his eyes rested on a familiar sight, something he was just, in fact, looking at right before this whole thing started.

"...I'm going to need you guys to trust me."

The rest of the group, even Lana, turned to face the demi-human.

He quickly tilted his head towards the giant pit. Nothing was guarding it, nor did it seem like the teachers believed it necessary for them to do so. It was the only thing Engel could think of at the moment. "I... I can't think of anything else. I don't know where it goes, but what other choice do we have? Better than the alternative, right?"

Claire nodded fervently in agreement.

Bubble gave him a confused, questioning look, before nodding hesitantly.

Abbie looked like he wanted to just get out of there as quickly as possible.

Lana still couldn't react, but it didn't look like she resisted the idea.

"It's settled, then. Come on! We don't have time to waste!"

With that, Engel led the group towards the huge, gaping pit. It appeared that as long as they didn't try and leave the library through conventional means, like the front doors, the teachers wouldn't intervene. After pushing and shoving through the terrified, hectic crowd, they eventually made it. Engel and Claire were the first to stare down the gaping pit, with Bubble following not too long after.
