CHOMP!
"Mhm, ye-up. That's quality meat."
"...why do you have to phrase it like that, Engel?"
"Because the meat is really dang good, Abbie. Have I told you that I make the greatest sandwiches of all time? Because I do. This is why I started making my own lunch, and it's totally not because those lines are insufferable."
"Something tells me that's part of it..."
"Hey, you two, quiet down. I gotta focus."
"You study, Bubble?"
"Hell no, Claire—I'm just trying to understand whatever the hell is going on in this book. It's way too abstract. I could barely follow along with Mister Holmes when he was reading the thing."
"Hey, c'mon, Bubbz. It's easy!! Just gotta do a little bit o' this, maybe a little bit o' that..."
"You aren't doing anything but waiving your hands around, Lana."
"Eh, it's worth a shot, though? C'mon, try it!"
The crew found themselves sitting down at a round table in the supernaturally large library that lied within the school. They don't often go here, especially for lunch, but Bubble had suggested them to as some sort of random change of pace. No one argued against the idea, so they, after receiving their lunch, had traversed to the library and rested there... to the dismay of those who regularly frequented the so-called nerd safe haven.
They were infamously rowdy, but overall harmless.
Engel leaned back as he took another bite, or chomp, of his turkey-bacon sandwich. His eyes instinctively drifted elsewhere as the conversation similarly went elsewhere, gazing upon the rest of the gargantuan library. While at first glance, it may not seem that huge in totality, there were multiple stories that one could traverse up to encounter even more, taller bookshelves. And then that wasn't even mentioning the huge, gaping gated hole that led someplace no one knew of. All he knew was that falling down there... wasn't deadly.
It was a huge topic of discussion for him and his friends during their freshmen year of High School when everyone eventually came together. They had even gotten Miss Thavel to give them some sort of explanation for why it was there, although it was sort of vague. She told them that it was the reason why the library was so big to begin with, which confused the group even further.
When pressed with even more questions, Miss Thavel got annoyed and refused to answer anymore. And that was that—no one had thought to ask anyone else, and eventually, the topic became irrelevant.
He had a couple theories, one of which involved Alice, but he had no way to prove it... although he believed he might have heard Oliver referencing something about her being able to manipulate the size of her room during one of their gym classes, which could explain everything. But again, it was all hearsay as far as he knew, and he wasn't about to go up to her room and press her of all people for answers.
That was suicidal.
Shaking his head, he tuned back into the group discussion.
"Man, I am so friggin' beat today. I just want to go home and sleep for the rest of time," Bubble sighed, shutting her book and putting her head down. "Is it Friday yet? I need it to be the weekend or else I'll explode, or something."
