Hours had passed since Mu Yuling's desperate fight with the snake-man. Now, they sat on opposite sides of the crumbling temple, tension thick in the air.

The snake, whose name is Shei Long had finally stopped trying to slither closer. Instead, he stayed near a broken pillar, rubbing his injured tail with a pained expression. Every time he opened his mouth to speak, Mu Yuling raised the brick in her hand, her glare sharp enough to cut stone.

"Where is this place?" she demanded, voice hoarse from screaming.

Shei Long's forked tongue flicked out before he answered. "This is my prison." His voice was low, smooth like oil over water. "The humans sealed me here centuries ago."

Mu Yuling's grip on the brick tightened. "Why?"

"Because they feared me." His emerald eyes gleamed in the dim light. "They blamed me for the missing children. Said I devoured them in the night." A bitter smile twisted his lips. "But I did no such thing."

She didn't know whether to believe him or not.

Silence stretched between them, broken only by the distant drip of water echoing through the ruins.

Then, Shei Long tilted his head, studying her with open curiosity. "Why are you dressed so strangely?" His gaze traveled over her modern gear, the sturdy boots, the synthetic fabric of her jacket. "You don't look like the villagers. You don't smell like them either."

Mu Yuling stiffened.

No, she's not from here.

She was from another time entirely, a place of skyscrapers and smartphones, where creatures like him were nothing but myths.

But how could she explain that? "I'm not from around here." she muttered, not bothering to elaborate.

Shei Long's eyes narrowed. "Then where?"

"It doesn't matter." She cut him off, tightening her grip on the brick. "You wouldn't believe me anyway."

He studied her for a long moment, his expression unreadable. Then, with a slow exhale, he leaned back against the pillar. "Perhaps not."

The temple fell silent again.

Outside, the wind howled, rattling the ancient stones. Somewhere in the distance, thunder rumbled, ominous, like a warning.

Mu Yuling swallowed hard.

She's trapped with him.

And she had no idea how to get out.

A few hours later, a shharp clack of stone against stone jolted Shei Long awake. His slit pupils adjusted to the dim temple light, immediately spotting Mu Yuling at the massive sealed door.

She had gathered a pile of broken bricks and was now hurling them at the door with all her strength. *Thud. Crack. Thud.* The noise echoed painfully in his sensitive ears.
