"Their mana should have depleted by now. Unless.... They are using a world item." The teacher shared her theory with Bijou. "So let's just keep punching them, the children are on their summer break. So I have all the time in the world." She gives a thumbs-up emoji.
"You can't just bull-head your way through everything, Yamaiko-san!"
"I am using my head, I'll use [Taunt] and distract the summons to myself; you, on the other hand, attack the puppet master. It's fool-proof."
"Uh-Huh!?" The mage is stunned at the proclamation of her teammate. The other, having paid no heed to the distress, runs off to engage in battle, leaving Bijou behind flabbergasted.
If only she could replicate that fight.... It seems timely to show the young Nemu what she could accomplish in the future, "[Summon Monster 1st]!" The soil of the directions from which more slimes were erupting was also used as a catalyst for the golems' bodies, and, embarrassing as the puppeteer wouldn't have liked to admit, a full-fledged necromancer like Momonga possessed more passives for general summons than she did.
Nevertheless, if she made the golem trap the slimes within itself, then she could push to the maximum summon limit of the King Slime, yes?
Of course, a feature like this wasn't previously in Yggdrasill, but Shiori committed to it anyway, mostly due to the fact that the game code couldn't understand what was happening, glitching in the area where the two entities merged.
Lo and behold, the devs liked it so much they implemented it on a later patch. The glitching ceased, but Shiori didn't mind.
Besides, she didn't mind whether her opponents fled; only when they refused to acknowledge defeat. Not knowing how to cut your losses was one of the easy holes to fall into for overconfident players, as written in "PKing for Dummies" by Punitto Moe.
"[Silver Lance]!" Perfect for armorless foes.
She aimed and released the spell in two consecutive actions at the emerging dirt mound that signals the arrival of the King Slime, trying to assess why its mini-mes were encased in the walking mud.
"Press on the offensive! Now!" Mortar-like fusillades surged from below the pinned-down enemy. The lack of floating numbers quietly reminds Shiori of her lonely displacement.
She shook away her stormy cloud in judgment, focusing on the current battle. She can mourn later.
As Shiori wiped her sweat-soaked tears away in a jerking motion. And just like turning on the windshield wiper on a misty summer morning of an entomologist spotting a rare cicada, her eyes glistened as she heard the tumble and rumble of a multitude of heavy feet marching towards her. She looks back to see farmers holding pitchforks and shovels, some with low-quality swords. Securing the concentration of glop from crawling out even as their tools were dissolved by the slime's skin.
The scene upfront was illuminated by a real solstitial sun instead of a guise of faint hue, that she was oh so used to. Memories of past battles with former comrades flood like water tearing down an already weakened dam.
The glop of the penetrated areas began to climb the enlodged tools, "Second row, take over! First row, fall back!" The clang of additional steel and iron rang as ordered.
No matter how insignificant an aid may be, help was help, something her home lacked. Shiori's heart felt, she could feel it, and possibly the villagers too.
Were the girls alright?
Withholding the answer, the King Slime took a last stance. No longer did it forfeit a small number of its body, but the entirety of what made up its being.
