Nyra looked at Angela, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. In an excited tone, she asked,
"Aunt, can you show us the Mirror of Realms? I’ve only seen something like that in cartoons"
Lucian jumped in, nodding eagerly.
"Yes, Aunt. Pleeeease"
Nyra glanced at Lucian, a small smile tugging at her lips. She tried to hold it back, it was the first time she had seen him act this way.
Angela smiled.
"Sure, I’ll take you there... but first, let me ask you something."
Nyra and Lucian both nodded.
"Aunt, what is it?"
Lucian asked.
Angela turned her back to them.
"I can show you the Mirror of Realms, but..."
Nyra blinked.
"But? But what?"
Angela turned to face them, her expression serious.
"You’ll have to choose."
Lucian frowned.
"Choose between what? Aunt, stop this suspense, I really don’t like suspense. Just tell us."
Angela’s voice was calm but firm.
"You have to choose between the Mirror of Realms and your powers."
"What??"
Nyra gasped.
Angela nodded.
"Yes. I can either show you the mirror... or teach you how to unlock your powers, to break the seal within you."
Both Nyra and Lucian stood in stunned silence.
"Aunt, what are you saying?"
Lucian asked.
"I said what you heard."
After a moment, Nyra straightened.
"I choose power."
"So do I,"
Lucian said without hesitation.
Angela raised an eyebrow.
"Why? Don’t you want to see the Mirror of Realms?"
Lucian stepped forward, eyes filled with determination.
"Yes, we were excited to see it. But you asked us to choose, and power is more important."
Nyra nodded beside him.
"We were curious because we’ve only seen such things in cartoons. It was just a moment of excitement. But our powers... they’re forever."
Lucian looked at Nyra. They shared a glance, a glance filled with determination and responsibility.
Then he turned back to Angela, voice steady.
"Aunt, I don’t know why you asked us this. But we’re here to protect this realm. We’re the chosen ones. We’ve enjoyed many things since we arrived, it all felt like a fairy tale. But we’re not here for luxury or childhood dreams. We’re here to protect. And to do that, we need our powers awakened."
Angela’s eyes lit up with pride. A genuine smile bloomed across her face.
"My children, I’m truly proud of you both. You may seem childish at times, but you understand your duties."
Nyra and Lucian stood tall, confident.
Angela continued,
"I was just testing you. And now I’m sure, you’ll protect this realm from evil."
"You were testing us?"
Nyra asked, wide-eyed.
Angela chuckled.
"Of course!! I had to be sure my niece is mature enough to protect a realm. I had a little doubt, especially after seeing how childish you were when fighting with Lucian."
She teased, throwing Lucian a playful side-eye.
Lucian smirked.
"Yeah, you’re right, Aunt. Even I doubted how she’d manage to fight beside me and protect Vaeloria."
Nyra shot him a look. Lucian could read her expression instantly.
"Nyraa, let me finish!"
he said quickly.
