I didn't expect much when Connor Sharpe followed me back.
Just some random notification while hanging out with my best friend.
But one simple "hi" turns into something neither of us saw coming.
A couple of years apart, different grades, and a millio...

We stood there for a few more seconds, the warm evening air wrapping around us. I could still faintly hear Jake’s booming laughter and Yumi shouting something about marshmallows from the grill area. But it all felt distant like a background hum to this small, perfect bubble we were in.
Connor was quiet for a moment, his thumb slowly brushing over the back of my hand. He looked like he was trying to find the right words, brows slightly furrowed, lips parted.
I tilted my head. “What’s going on in that brain of yours?”
He let out a breathy laugh and looked up at me, eyes soft. “I was just thinking about… how I’ve never really felt like this before.”
My heart thumped hard against my chest.
He continued, voice quieter now. “Like, I’ve had crushes. I’ve liked people. But this is different. You’re different.”
My breath caught in my throat. I opened my mouth to say something, but nothing came out, so I just nodded because yeah, I felt that too. In every stolen look, every inside joke, every time our hands brushed and the world tilted slightly.
Connor stepped a little closer, our hands still locked, his free one reaching up to brush a strand of hair behind my ear.
“I’ve been wanting to ask you something,” he said, his voice just above a whisper. “For a while, actually.”
My pulse raced. My palms got sweaty. My brain screamed. IS THIS IT?!
He smiled nervously, eyes flickering down to our hands and back up again. “Would you… want to be my girlfriend?”
I blinked, trying to process the words that felt almost too good to be real. For a second, I just stood there, staring at him like an idiot.
Then I smiled. And it was the kind that stretched all the way across my face, my cheeks actually hurting from how wide it was.
“Yes,” I breathed out, and then louder, firmer, more me: “Yes. I want that. I want you.”
Connor’s smile exploded this big, dorky, adorable grin that made him look even more gorgeous than usual. He laughed, like he couldn’t believe it either, and then without even thinking, he pulled me into his arms, lifting me off the ground in a tight, spinning hug.
I laughed against his chest, arms around his neck. He gently put me down.
“So it’s official now,” I whispered.
“Yeah,” he murmured. “You’re mine. And I’m yours.”
We started walking back to the others, still holding hands.
When we returned to the backyard, someone had already lit the bonfire. Jake and Aidan were arguing over how many marshmallows counted as “too many,” and Yumi was sitting cross-legged next to Laura, who was probably talking about herself as usual. Ron and Barbra were laughing near the patio, drinks in hand, while Samantha and Logan strung up fairy lights between the posts.
Everything looked warm and golden and cozy.
“Hey,” Yumi shouted when she saw us. “Where’d you lovebirds go?”
“Lovebirds?” Jake said, turning with a full-mouth grin looking at our hands. “OH MY GOD—DID YOU FINALLY DO IT?”
Connor just squeezed my hand and smiled.
“I asked her,” he said, almost proudly.
“And I said yes,” I added, cheeks already burning from how loudly they all reacted.
“BOOOOM!” Aidan cheered. “Called it. You owe me five bucks, Jake.”
“Wait, what?!” Jake yelled.
Barbra gasped. “Wait, what what?”
“They’re dating now,” Samantha said with a smug grin.
Barbra squealed like a teenage girl. “FINALLY! Ron, they’re dating!”
Ron raised his beer. “About damn time.”
The next few minutes were just messy, everyone congratulating us, teasing us, making room for us near the fire. Connor sat down first, pulling me gently beside him so our knees were touching.
He leaned in, voice low, just for me. “So… girlfriend.”
I smiled. “Boyfriend.”
“Wow,” he whispered, shaking his head in mock disbelief. “You’re so lucky.”
I laughed, elbowing him playfully. “Oh shut up.”
He leaned in and pressed a soft kiss to my cheek. “Seriously though. I am.”
In that moment?
I was the luckiest girl in the world.
——————————— Just imagine Connor looking at you like this after you said yes
