"a string that pulled me out of all the wrong arms, right into that dive bar."
a crossover: wizarding world x vampire diaries
just a heads-up guys: this story's more focused over a family than any love angle-there would be minor lovey-dovey subplots...
The clock on the wall ticked lazily towards the hour, but it felt like time was going in reverse as we scrambled around the dormitory. The air was heavy with excitement, nerves, and the undeniable thrill of doing something absolutely ridiculous—and I wouldn't have it any other way. I stared at the pile of clothes before me, digging through my trunk in search of the perfect outfit. Rebekah had let me borrow this silver dress weeks ago—saying it would be perfect for "an occasion," and even though I didn't know what occasion she was referring to, tonight, it seemed like the perfect excuse to try it on. I pulled the dress out, and as I unfolded it, the silver fabric shimmered under the candlelight, catching the flicker of firelight from the torches on the walls. The dress was stunning—short, fitting perfectly around my waist, with delicate silver jewels scattered across it like constellations. I couldn't help but smile. It was the kind of outfit that practically screamed mystery and magic. Hermione, meanwhile, was still sitting at her desk, her quill furiously writing about some essay, her mind clearly still consumed by homework. She hadn't noticed yet that I was already diving into the preparations. I draped the dress across the edge of my bed, letting it hang in the air for a moment before I slipped it on. The fabric slid over my skin, cool and smooth, fitting like it was made for me. I turned toward Hermione with a grin plastered on my face. "What do you think?" She glanced up from her parchment, raising an eyebrow as if I'd asked the most ridiculous question in the world. "You're wearing that?" "Well, it's either this or my regular robes," I teased, giving a dramatic twirl. "What do you think? Reckless enough?" Her eyes scanned the dress with a furrowed brow, and she opened her mouth to respond, but paused, clearly taken aback by how well it actually fit me. "I—I guess it's... bold. Definitely bold." I laughed, spinning around again and winking at her. "It's the perfect level of dangerous. We're about to crash a Slytherin party. We need to look like we know what we're doing." Hermione sighed, rubbing her temples. "I still can't believe we're doing this. This is—ridiculous, Diana. You know that, right?" I shrugged nonchalantly as I slipped my silver heels on, the sparkle of the jewels catching in the dim light. "We could be studying in the library, buried under a mountain of essays. Or... we could do something memorable. Magical." Her expression softened, but I could see the worry still etched across her face. She sighed again, looking at her reflection in the mirror. "It's just... this is insane. And I don't know what I'm supposed to wear. You—you look like you belong in a fairytale, and I'm here wearing a pink corset top and skinny jeans." I laughed, crossing the room to where Hermione was standing. "Trust me, you look perfect. I mean, you're Hermione Granger—you'll turn heads whether you like it or not." She shot me a skeptical look. "I'm wearing a corset, Diana." I raised my brows at her. "It's pink. It's a statement. And besides, I'm pretty sure the point of going to this party is to not blend in." She snorted, clearly trying not to smile. "I'm not sure this is what I imagined my first year at Hogwarts would be like." "I'm pretty sure no one imagines this at all," I said, giving her a wink. "That's why it's going to be perfect. The fact that you're second-guessing your outfit means we're doing it right." Hermione hesitated for a second. Her hands gripped the edge of her cloak, still not entirely convinced, but the gleam of curiosity in her eyes told me everything I needed to know. She wasn't backing out now. "Alright, alright," she muttered, as she reached for her pink corset top and started adjusting it. "But you're buying me Butterbeer afterward." "I'll buy you the whole tavern if you want," I teased, already grabbing my wand from my nightstand and giving my hair a quick flick. A simple charm to tame the mess, making it look like a cascade of sleek waves that shimmered in the light. I glanced at Hermione, who was smoothing down her skinny jeans, adjusting the straps of her top once more. "You know," I said, smoothing out the final wrinkles in my dress, "the whole Slytherin vibe doesn't scare me as much as it used to. This is Hogwarts. We're allowed to have fun, right?" Hermione's lips curled up slightly at the corners, but she shook her head in mock disapproval. "You're definitely the reason I'm going to get into trouble," she said, her tone light but with a trace of affection. I gave her a smirk. "You're welcome, Granger." We both stood in front of the mirror, taking one last look at ourselves. The dress fit perfectly, the silver heels added just the right amount of sparkle, and I could feel the excitement bubbling inside me. The party was in three hours. It felt like I was about to walk into an entirely different world. A world where anything could happen. Hermione turned toward me, suddenly looking less nervous and more intrigued. "Do you really think it's going to be... dangerous?" I grinned at her, feeling the thrill of the night settling in. "I hope so."
