During the years I've known Nightmare, I've seen him as a rude, and nasty monster. He has no empathy for those he thinks are beneath him, and little empathy for those he saw as equals. And despite all of this, I'm still head over heels for him. Maybe I'm crazy for thinking that way, but how I see Nightmare is much different.
“Cross.”
A familiar voice called out to me.
“Hey, Boss. Wazzup?”
He scoffed at my sad attempt to be funny. At least I couldn't say I didn't try. He threw a book at me. I fumbled with it before catching it, then looked down at the cover.
“Why are you giving me a cook book?”
I looked up at him, his expression stayed the same as how it always is; cold and annoyed.
“You can't cook for shit, but I'm hungry. So I thought I'd let you try and do something... for once.”
Nightmare had always been the one who cooked all of our meals for us. Out of all of us, absolutely none could cook besides him, unless you wanted to count Horror's ‘human dogs’ (Not tasty, by the way. Maybe he needs this cook book more than I do.)
“Now, Boss. No disrespect, but are you using your brain? Me, out of everyone in this castle.”
I looked down at the book again. It wasn't even a cook book, but rather a book for baking. I guess that would technically be called a cook book still? A bake book? I shook my head to get away from my dumb thoughts. Before I could get anything else out of my mouth, Nightmare had already walked away. I let out a long, irritated sigh.
As I walked towards the castle kitchen, I turned through the pages of the book. Most of the items in here were sweets. I never took him for a sweets kind of guy, but rather a bitter or salty kind.
My eye lights landed on a page with a simple recipe for a chocolate cake. It seemed pretty simple enough, as long as I followed the instructions. I made it to the kitchen entrance, then it hit me. I was making something for Nightmare. I couldn't help but feel a smile tug at my mouth. It was corny, but I've always wanted to make something for Nightmare. Ew, I need to stop thinking about all this cheesy shit.
I opened the cabinets, searching for all I needed. Then the pantry, then the fridge. After double checking that I had gathered everything, I preheated the oven.
“Did it say 350° or 375°...?”
I talked to myself as I went through the steps, it helped with the odd silence in the large kitchen. When everything was put in the bowl, I started to stir it until I wasn't able to see any of the dry ingredients. The mixture was poured into two round pans, then placed in the oven.
“I guess I just wait now?”
I wasn't sure how to tell when the cake was ready, so I used my trusty pal; UnderNet. I swiftly searched how to tell, and the first result I received was sticking a tooth pick or fork in. If there was no batter that came off, then it was ready. It seemed simple enough, so that's what I did. I scrolled through UnderNet for a while, and every now and then I would check up on the cakes.
When there was no batter on the fork, I put the fork in the sink, then put on one of the oven mits near by. I opened the oven, and took the two pans out, leaving a crack open for the hot air to escape. I set the two pans on the stove top, then started to prepare the frosting.
