Wooyoung sighed dramatically as he dropped the last of his duffel bags onto his new dorm bed. Huffing, he turned to his mother, who was on the verge of tears.
His second semester would officially begin tomorrow.
"Why did you have to transfer to the city, my little bean?" she whined with a strained sigh.
Mr. Jung's chuckle harmonized with Wooyoung's snicker. "Because this university is better. More prestigious. I thought we went over this enough times, Mother." The teen strolled over to his mother to give her a tight hug.
Cradling him in her arms, just like she had the first time she dropped him off at kindergarten, she sighed.
"You're right, baby," she relented, pressing a soft kiss to his forehead.
"Come on, honey. Yeosang and Jongho are going to make sure he's fine. Don't you trust our spiritual sons?" Wooyoung's father comforted his distressed wife lovingly.
When she chuckled, the air around them felt lighter.
"I do, I do. Take care, my precious. And don't let any handsome city boys distract you from your studies," she giggled, only to cackle harder at the way her son's face flushed.
"Stop it, Mother, I would never," he squeaked, mortified.
With one last hug, the old couple headed back to their car, ready to return home to Pohang, leaving their one and only child to whatever unknown adventures university life had in store for him.
With a fond smile at his parents' retreating vehicle he turned around to explore the campus as much as he could.
"Woo!"
The familiar voice snapped Wooyoung's attention away from the architecture he had been admiring, and his head turned reflexively toward the sound.
With a wide smile, Wooyoung ran to his best friend—whom he hadn't seen in over six months—and entangled himself in a strong, long-lasting hug. They giggled, squeezing each other tighter.
"I missed you!" Wooyoung mumbled before they pulled away. His eyes flickered around. "Where's Jongho?"
Yeosang perked up. "He went to fetch Seonghwa. You're gonna love him—"
"I don't even know him."
"You will," Yeosang insisted. Then he gasped and pointed somewhere behind Wooyoung.
"Oh, there they are!"
Wooyoung turned—
And then paused.
Jongho was there, yes, but the figure beside him made something in Wooyoung's chest stir.
Tall. Elegant. Sharp-featured and unreadable.
This was Seonghwa?
Something about him wasn't just polished—it was measured. The way he held himself. The way his gaze flickered over Wooyoung, as if assessing something he didn't need to say out loud.
Wooyoung didn't know why, but the longer Seonghwa stood there, the heavier the air around him felt.
It wasn't discomfort.
But he seemed a tad bit unapproachable.
It was something, though.
"This is Seonghwa-hyung," Jongho introduced.
Seonghwa inclined his head slightly, his face unreadable.
Wooyoung swallowed. "H-Hi, Seonghwa-hyung."
