•Chapter Forty-Three•

Start from the beginning

"Lottery ticket?" Jason jokes.

"Pfft. Yes let's start her on gambling day one.." I throw a piece of cookie dough at Jason and he catches it in his mouth.

"Nice. I meant that to hit you but.." you manage to surprise me with your skills instead.

"Mm. This is delicious." He complements.

"salmonella fears you." I laugh.

"Yes, the mighty and fearful Re-Jason! Todd!" He choked, covering it with laughter.

"Aaah so scary!" I raised my hands in mock horror. "Spare me!"

"No, you are doomed to fall to..." he threw cookie dough at me, and I squeal to avoid them, but he threw so much so fast I got pummeled.

"SALMONELLA POISONING MWAHAAHAHA!" He roars, I duck and he chases over to me holding a cookie dough ball.

"You must consume!!" He shoves the uncooked morsel towards me and I flee in giggles.

"NooOoo!"

"You cannot escape!" He chases after me again, and manages to pin me to a counter, one hand to my left (on the counter) and the other holding the cookie dough towards my mouth.

I could hardly control my laughter, truly having way too much fun.

"Open wide," he teases, and I sigh in defeat.

He popped the dough in my mouth and I pretended to crumple down in death.

"Mwahaa, you are not worthy!" He exclaimed, placing his other hand on the other side of me.

I popped back up. "Ah ha! So you thought.. I was merely playing along! It is you who is not worthy!"

He grinned.

Our heavy breathing brought me back down to earth, realizing how close we were.

How close his face was, and how his eyes bore into mine.

I stared back, raptured. His eyes were so.. beautiful. Flecks of green almost took over the blue eyes.

Jason leaned closer. "..Percy.. can I.."

His eyes drifted down to my lips and my breath caught in my throat.

We both jolted as Jason's phone blared its alarm, our foreheads bumping into each others.

He stepped away, a blush on his face as he rubbed his forehead. "Ah.. sorry... the cookies."

"R-right." I was equally flushed.

Was he.. thinking about.. was I thinking about...

My entire face turned beet red, and to avoid Jason I turned to the oven.

I pulled out the cookies, which only a moment longer in the oven probably would have rendered them un sellable.

"Perfect! They're.. just right.." I laughed awkwardly to clear the air.

"Good.. great.. I'm gonna just go.. borrow your restroom for a moment."He mumbled, striding away.

The moment the bathroom door closed I let out a sigh of relief.

"Aphrodite, please stop. Give me a moment to breathe!" I begged aloud.

I felt like I heard some muffled screaming, and I wondered if that was Aphrodite fan girling away at my turmoil.

To busy myself I popped the next tray into the oven and ate a cookie, melting at its gooey goodness.

Jason returned a moment later, looking composed and normal.

"Alright. Back to business." He said while getting back to work.

"Yup. I put the next tray in the oven.." I nodded.

"Timer set?" He asked.

"Not yet.." the mere thought of a timer was a little tender still, and I had to look down to cover the blush that appeared again.

"I got it." He said while pulling his phone out to set another timer.

"Thanks." I sighed, still recovering from the excitement and then the accidental intimate moment.

"So what are you going to get Liz.." Jason asked, bringing back up a safe topic.

"...mmm.. maybe something artsy. She might love a new set of paint. But I don't know." I said voicing my thoughts.

"Maybe she needs a phone." Jason shrugged.

"What is your obsession with getting people phones." I raised an eyebrow.

Jason snorted. "I can't help it.. they're just so.. *phonetastic*

I rolled my eyes. "Ugh. Don't remind me of that interaction."

"It's pretty funny looking back though." He insisted.

"The poor girl probably is forced to say all that." I sighed.

"Most likely.." Jason agreed.

Jason's phone beeped again, signaling the next batch of cookies done.

"Okay, all that's left are these here and we can go." Jason said while putting the next pan in oven.

"Mhm." I put the mixing bowl in my sink and started hand washing it.

I used my powers to aid the cleaning so that not a lot of scrubbing would be needed.

I set the bowl aside on the drying wrack and found a towel for my hands.

"Now we wait.." I said, looking at the remaining tray.

It would be 15 minutes before we left, so now we had to deal with awkward silences.

"Well.." I looked down and eyed my pajamas. "I'm going to go get changed.. if you don't mind keeping an eye on the cookies."

Jason nodded. "Yeah, of course. Go right ahead."

I turned and went to my room, shutting the door behind me.

Is it appropriate to scream now?

Maybe in a pillow.
