This part of this City was always alive, crowded and the usual mix of the hurried footsteps, vendors shoutings, the rhythmatics of passenger's hurrying as well the ever present hum of conversation and a restless crowd gathered on either side of the railway gate. Rimsha barely noticed any of it. She was running late - Again. Her sign-in time was 8:00 am and it's 7:30 am already. She didn't want to be late today; as usual the railway gate was closed for a passing train.
A huge crowd gathered in front of the gate waiting for the train to pass so that it would open and they would cross it and go to their destinations. She was moving like a shadow, lost in her own thoughts- an argument with her soul sister, tangled in a web of unfinished assignments, nibbling exhaustiveness that comes nowadays from balancing university with work and personal life giving her the overwhelming feeling that nothing in this life was going right now. She clutched her phone, alarm flashes on the screen, she snoozed it. The shortcut was tempting; cross the tracks instead of waiting for the gates to opened. she had seen others to do this before. Without thinking she moved forward.
Seeing the flashes of red light coming from the train, people stepped back waiting for the train. but Rimsha lost in her turmoil, didn't. She crossed the yellow safety line and when her foot was about to step out on the tracks, a flash flickering signaling the Awami train's arrival. She was confused; why did others look so strange at her? Before Rimsha could process any of it, someone yanked her back – so hard that she felt a shock in her body. The wind coming from the passing train whipped against her skin. She was shaking, her mind wasn't able to process what had just happened. One step, just one step more and she would have been gone.
The train's echoing roar faded, but Rimsha's heartbeat didn't slow. She shucked her head catching up with reality. that someone had saved her. Someone had pulled her back just in time– nano second before the train would have ended everything. Beside her, a figure stood nearby the silhouette of a boy in a hoodie.
she turned desperate to see this Shadowed person; who saved her life. she tried to say something – THANK YOU. but before she had the chance to say anything, before she was able to look him through her eyes; in seconds he was gone.
Rimsha searched again frantically, but she found no one. She stepped far away and the memories of her near death weighed heavily on her chest as she turned back to the tracks. If that person had been a milli second late, she wouldn't be standing here right. She thought who that person was, she didn't even know her name, nor see his face. Even so he has transformed everything in her life. Her hands trembled on his bag, as she walked away, she knew that she might not have been able to identify him. She thought certain interactions were never meant to be completely understood. Perhaps a few moments, some nanoseconds, were destined to stay secrets—altering lives in silence, like a temporal ripple. Despite this, there's a possibility that some day might be the universe would reunite them.
