As I lay awake, wrapped in Xaden's tight embrace, I can't seem to stay asleep. My mom is constantly on my mind, turning my dreams to nightmares, and I just wanted it all to stop. I let out a small breath, trying to go back to sleep and listen to the heartbeat of Xaden as he sleeps peacefully next to me.

I feel fingers brush through my hair and I squeeze my eyes shut, knowing I woke him up.

"Why are you awake?" I hear Xaden ask softly and I move my head off his chest and look up at him, resting my chin against him. His eyes open slightly and he looks over at me, smiling.

"Sorry, I couldn't sleep." I say back quietly and he rubs his eyes, before opening his eyes fully.

"Were you thinking about your mom again?"

"Yeah." I breathe out and I feel Xaden tighten his grip around me, sighing. I close my eyes once more, enjoying the silence that envelops us as we lay here in each others embrace.

"Well, come on then." Xaden says, filling the darkness and he slips out of the bed, causing my head to fall against the mattress. I let out a huff and push myself up into a sitting position. I watch as Xaden slips on his shoes and jacket, before turning towards me.

"Where?" I ask, furrowing my brows in confusion as to why he is getting dressed, when it is the middle of the night.

"You'll see."

Xaden grabs one of his hoodies and throws it to me. I slip on the hoodie, without hesitation and slip on my shoes as well. I stand up and follow him out of his room and straight for the staircase. We, quietly, make our way down the stairs and out the backdoor as quickly as we could.

The cold air brushes against my cheeks and I pull the hoodie up higher against my face, trying to feel the warmth of the fabric as we walk down the path. I brush my fingers against the red roses as we pass, not being able to help myself and smile slightly.

"Are you leading me straight to my death?" I ask and Xaden snorts loudly, but doesn't say anything as we continue down the path to wherever he was leading us to. "Because, you know, this would be the perfect plan. No one to witness it."

"Shut up." He throws behind his shoulder and I roll my eyes, letting a laugh slip past my lips.

"So where are we going then?"

"We're going to do the one thing that helps me when I can't sleep." Xaden says, looking over his shoulder at me, before leading me away from the garden and up a steep hill.

I feel the damp grass brush against my legs, soaking my pants as we make our way up the hill, straight for the top. My breath was visible in the air, as I exhaled with each breath, the further I climbed up this hill. It was peaceful, no one around but the two of us, and the quiet made me feel a sense of solitude. It was just what I needed.

I watch as Xaden reaches the top of the hill and lay down, looking up at the sky. I stop right next to him, but don't sit down and he looks over at me.

"You're going to get sick, the grass is wet and it's cold out here." I say, crossing my arms over my chest as another cold breeze rustles the trees. Xaden lets out a small laugh, shaking his head as he looks up at me. In his eyes, there's an emotion I can't quite pinpoint, but it disappears quickly.

"Come on, live a little."

I let out a sigh, before giving in, and laying down in the grass right next to him. I feel the wet seep through my clothes and leave my back with a cold sting. I look up at the sky, the stars scattered across the sky in familiar constellations.

I  trace each dip and shape with my fingers, smiling fondly as my eyes study each and every shine in the sky.

"It's beautiful." I say, not being able to keep my eyes off of the sky. I feel Xaden's gaze on me and I resist the urge to blush under his calculating stare.

"Yeah." He says quietly, not taking his eyes off of me. I let a smile make its way onto my face, as I continue to stare at the sky. "How are you feeling now?"

"Good, this does help. I love stargazing." I say, my smile widening.

"I know. That's why I brought you out here." I hear him say and I look over at him and see he is already looking at me.

I feel Xaden's fingers brush against mine, before intertwining our hands together. I squeeze his hand, letting out a sigh, completely and utterly content.

I close my eyes, enjoying the quiet serenity nature gives me and focus on the feeling of his hand in mine, as he runs his thumb across the back of my hand in soft, relaxing motions.

He was right, this does help when you can't sleep.

I hope you enjoyed this flashback! Bit short, but I have run into a small writers block for the flashbacks.

Next chapter will be a continuation of present time!

Might have some great ideas in the making for present chapters, maybe even in two chapters..

Until next time! <3
