"Look who we have here." I hear an all too familiar voice that I know all to well, before I even see the face. My father strolls in and smirks menacingly. My heart clenches and I dig my hands further into my face to cover the sob that is threatening to come out. I could stand to watch my father hurt the one person who has taught me to love my flaws and see the real me. Something he would never get to see.

"I'm fine." I hear Xaden say and I instantly know it was meant for me, not my father. He knew I was going to jump out and do something, he knew. I close my eyes tightly, hating that I had to hide in here. Xaden should have hid with me and we could have figured it out as we went. "I was just cleaning up my wounds."

"I see that." My father hisses, looking directly at the things I used to clean his wound suspiciously. If he knew someone else helped him, he didn't show it. If my father knew it was me, he would kill me and not hesitate. I would be a traitor in his eyes.

In reality, he was a traitor in my eyes. He hurt these people, for no reason. For what? Calling out an unspeakable conspiracy that they were too scared to realize was real? That did not warrant their lives and their children's freedom.

"Now that you have cleaned yourself up, you will be sent to Trivainne to be fostered by Duke Lindell. When you become of age, you will join the Rider Quadrant, along with your other traitorous companions." My father says, glaring at Xaden with so much hatred. It's the same look he gives me and I'm his daughter. He smiles wickedly. "Now, we're not without compassion. We'll give you a few minutes to take a last glance at your home before we burn it to the ground along with your precious time. Tick tock."

My father and his guards leave the room without a second thought, letting the door slam shut. Xaden waits a few seconds, making sure they don't come back before he rushes towards the cupboard I'm hidden in and yanks the door open. I, instantly, throw my arms around his neck knowing this might be the last time we will see each other for a while. Not forever, we will see each other again, we always find our way back to each other.

"I'm so sorry," I whisper, pulling back and resting my hands on his cheeks. They were wet with tears and my own fall at his expression. It was full of so much heartbreak and I wish I could fix it. He just lost his father and now he's losing the only home he has known his whole life. He leans into my touch further, letting out a deep breath. "I wish I could save your childhood, your home."
